January. Colder than December with no festive distractions. Poor and fat but too cold to run. Covered in slush. Mince-pie hangover. Train services all fall over, for some reason. At least February is short.
Yeah, exactly – I can’t believe February is getting so many votes. It’s short! and the days are starting to get a wee bit longer! January is definitely the endless slog.
This USED to be my least favorite month–for many, many years.
I would wallow in misery, waiting for the seed catalogs to come so I could at least dream.
Five years ago I moved to north Florida.
August is now my least favorite month, for the same reasons.
Hate February: Valentines Day is up there with Halloween in terms of a cheap, kitschy holiday, except romance depends on it. I hate it. It cheapens what exists between couples.
December and January offer up chills and set the mood for some cold winter nights, cuddling and the change-of-season atmosphere. After that, Winter’s old and I need me some Spring. March ends up sucking, too, just less than February.
What he said. January is bad, but with a relatively mild December, you haven’t been through much yet. February sucks hard always. You’re certainly sick of winter by that point, and there’s not much light at the end of the tunnel. March is just a tease. Valentine’s is a great way to make things worse if you happen to not have an SO at the time.
I don’t think it’s hot in hell, I think it’s always February there.
Another vote for March, a.k.a. Jesus Christ, is it still winter? Two feet of snow followed by three feet of mud. Plus lots of wind. And by that time I’m so sick of my winter clothes I could scream. By early April I’m usually so delusional that if it gets up to 40 degrees I’m wearing short sleeves.
I love the holidays which for me run from October through January (due to my birthday). I don’t live anywhere that gets hot so I love the summer and spending all my free time fishing and floating the river. The fall has football and the end of baseball. But spring sucks. Winter isn’t really over and besides March Madness the biggest sporting event is the NFL draft.
I went with February since it’s cold, dark, and contain Valentine’s Day. Not to mention at least later in the sprig you have to hope that winter is almost over February is the snowiest month here.
I voted for August for the same reason most other posters did. Here in Florida it is just awful. Plus, nothing ever happens in August. People stay home, there are no festivals or parties because it’s too hot. December through May, though–it’s beautiful then. (Today’s an exception: right now it’s 46 degrees here in Orlando. Yikes.)
December!!!
Zombiember is mine. It kind of smells.
I’ll have to say September. I don’t mind 6 months of winter really, but September is the guy that taps me on the shoulder to let me know what’s coming.
Got my plow truck stuck yesterday. Looks like I really do need chains on all 4 wheels. I was hoping that I could get by with one set. Getting a winch put on the rear of the truck this Tuesday. That will help a lot. Well, winter, do your best. I’m ready.
For me it was always September. I hated, hated, hated school growing up, and that was when school began. Later the start date moved up to late August, but there was still enough summer vacation left that I still liked August for the most part. And even then it still didn’t pick up in earnest until after Labor Day in September.
These days, if I’m in Thailand it’s April. THE absolute hottest month of the year and the time of the dreaded Songkran holiday. But these past couple of years, we’ve gone to cooler climes for most of April – the US, Japan – so it hasn’t been so bad. But we even traveled through Vietnam in an April, and if anything that place was even hotter except for Hanoi up in the North. But just the absence of Songkran made April so much more pleasant, so it’s more Songkran than the heat.
The vikings also believed that.
The concept of hell being hot can only have been invented south of the warm temperate climate zone. When you spend half your life freezing your ass off, “hot” just can’t be seen as bad.
August and February are tied. I dislike extremes in temperature, and August is too hot and February too cold.
Now January is longer and also cold, but at least I can watch football. By February it’s just cold and boring.
Another August-February tie, but I voted February. At least in August the days are long and bright. By February the holidays are over, the January hunkering down, loosening up, and garden planning are over… it’s just cold and dark and cold and dark and cold and dark. Then in March there is hope. Or DST at least.
August. Dog days of summer and I hates summer.
AUGUST.
Back to school
HOT
Expenses in August Include new school crap from supplies to clothes, to food, to shoes, to fees, to organizations.
Signals that summer is over and it’s back to work time for me.
March. Sick of winter by that point, holidays all over, No warm weather until mid April or May.
I couldnt decide b/t Feb or Aug but I hate the humidity worse than I hate the icy cold so I voted “Aug”.
January, because it’s a cold, bitter month with no special occasions to anticipate, unless you count New Years Day.
