Dexterity, definitely. I am very clumsy and while I do work out, I do it for the Strength and Con. Intelligence, Wisdom and (to a degree) Charisma are all pretty important for modern life and real world priorities, so none of those.
Charisma, then either constitution or wisdom. The only time it really changes is if I end up being the token cleric in which case I go low on dex and strength. But so far in the games and my last group I was in we allmost never needed anything with Charisma though that was prolly just the DM and us being lazy.
You might want to re-read the thread. This isn’t about your characters’ stats, it’s about your stats. Your real-world strength, agility, and so forth, as seen through the distorted lens of D&D (or D&D-esque) rules.
Now, I’m not picking for you…but you did fail your Spot check on the premise of the thread.
Dex, definitely. Weapon Focus and skill bonuses make up for it in the few areas it’s relevant, unless you have a better explanation for why I’m a good shot but can’t handwrite or throw/catch worth a darn.
Looking objectively at my life, I surmise I must have minimized all my stats, and taken a few character flaws, in order to maximize my magical aptitude. I’d be bigger than Merlin, Gandalf, and Harry Potter combined - if I hadn’t got dumped in a non-magical setting.
does getting a paper cut means low Constitution or simply low armour?
plug: Og doesn’t even have enough skill points to come out of character creation yet, but he’s shaping up to be a lovable meatshield with everything else as a dump stat… Doper Attributes . Character Creation
It’s either Charisma or Dexterity for me. I’m a natural klutz and am very badly coordinated; lack of social contacts throughout life all point to a low Charisma.
Wasn’t there an article in a Dragon magazine where there are a set of tests to determine your real-life stats? I remember Strength is determined by how many bench presses you can do.
Weeeell… my STR is clearly a dump stat. DEX used to be a’ight, but isn’t anymore. Who actually uses the old age rules, FFS ?! CON… I guess I got a mild edge there, I’m pretty tough for a weedy nerd, even though I get wheezy walking to the corner store. INT is bog standard. WIS, as much as I’d like to pretend, is similarly average (and I must have some sort of racial penalty to Spot & Search checks). Finally, CHA has got to be in the low single digits, compensated for by a few ranks in Craft (Witless Snark) and Perform (Drunken Singing).
In summary: My DM is a dick who should have let me reroll.
This is difficult for me to determine. I definitely score well in Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, and Wisdom, but the other two involve some things I do very well, and others that I don’t. For instance, with Dexterity, I have very good hand-eye coordination and balance, but I’m perhaps closer to average in terms of agility and speed. Similarly, with Charisma, I am reasonably good looking and, as far as I know, well regarded by people, but my persuasiveness relies much more on my ability to appeal to people’s intellect, reason, or emotions, and I’m certainly not a magnetic personality.
So, anyway, I’d probably have to go with Charisma being my worst, mostly because I can compare myself to people I know are highly charismatic and I’m not like them at all, whereas I can compare myself to others known for a number of the other stats and, if I’m not on the same level, I’m at least comparable. That, and I think Charisma largely entails extraverted personalities and I’m just… not.
That all depends… is a person always flat-footed on paper cut attack since he/she is always surprised when getting one? In that case, I would surmise that low AC is responsible more than anything else. Wear a pair of chainmail gloves every day and you’ll never get a paper cut again. Regardless, I would assume paper cut damage is always subdual as I can’t see anyone dying from a multitude of them. (Of course, Death By One Thousand Paper Cuts sounds like some form of ancient Chinese torture… okay, I really need to stop and get back to work now…)
well what do you know, someone wondered the same thing and posted the question a couple of months back. thread got sidetracked by said ancient Chinese torture though. - Death by a thousand paper cuts
