So… what are your attribute scores? Strength, intelligence, dexterity, charisma, constitution and wisdom? Any special abilities? Race? Extraordinary possessions and so on?
The twist is I’m looking to translate the real you into D&D terms instead of fantasizing.
Sadly, I’m pretty sure I fall into the 9-12 average range in all my stats. At best I have a +1 in melee combat, with proficiency in clubs and other blunt instruments. My non-weapon profs are a bit better, carpentry and brewing should be pretty high, I’d make a decent townie NPC.
S 4 I 15 W 6 C 4 D 12 Ch Hmmm, don’t really want to put a number on it. Apparently I’m fairly charming in person, but my appearance is rather plain, or downright homely. So, call it a 7?
I’d make a dandy wizard who is inclined to throw fireballs whether or not the situation actually calls for fireballs.
And yes, I know that this is not the approved stat order of today.
Ch is probably higher… I seem to remember a ‘comeliness’ stat showing up in some of the secondary literature. If you’re charming then that’s going to bump you charisma even if you are plain-looking.
I ignore the Comeliness stat, and regard it as just a needless complication. Some of the stuff in UA was pretty good, as I recall. Comeliness just wasn’t necessary.
Tying appearance to charisma isn’t really that useful of an idea. In 3.X at least, becoming a lich increases someone’s charisma, even though they take on the appearance of a dried out corpse.
Lady Una the Cursed
Level 2 Fighter
HP: 10
Strength: 11
Intelligence: 15
Wisdom: 14
Constitution: 8
Dexterity: 13
Charisma: 14 (I am really good at leading project teams and sales…why not)
Armor Class: 7 (historical fencing gear)
Attacks: 1
Damage: 1-4 (smallsword), 1-6 (rapier)
Despite the poor fighter stats above (low/avg strength, constitution, dexterity), I’ve been fencing historical smallsword for quite some time, and am now doing rapier, so in terms of fighting skills I might be at least a Level 2 or 3. Yeah, right.
Yeah, I figured that splitting attraction by appearance and attraction for other reasons made a certain amount of sense. Plenty of less than attractive people have had “high charisma”; Hitler comes to mind.
Nava the dwarven engineer. As a fighter, level 0 but see below.
Str: 6, “normal lazy middleaged humanoid female”, with a +1 to use DIY tools (if the tool is being used as a weapon and depending on the target’s culture, +5 on initiative due to “surprise that a girl knows Black and Decker from Happy Duck”)
Dex: 9. Ambidexterous, or maybe ambiclumsy.
Con: 11.
Int: high.
Wis: 9, but posessing her clan’s aqueno trait: the magic words a que no (bet you can’t) will lower wis to a 3 and raise stubborness to levels unusual even for dwarves.
Cha: normally about a 6. Can be raised to a 15 under pressure, through usage of the “my grandfather was a salesman you fucks” family heirloom.
Alignment: good legal. Not legal good, that’s Littlebro the accountant. In his case the “legal” part is more important, in my case the “good” part takes precedence.
The first time I ever played D&D, back in the dim mists of the eighties, I was killed on my first move by a dwarf with an axe. I suspect I would have a similar survival rate as a D&D character, unless there’s an in-universe niche on explorer teans for people who can draw and write well.
*you all think you have 18 Int. I’ll just come out and claim it. Bashful, I ain’t.
I’m well past my physical prime, and deducted points from S, D, and C accordingly. At 25, I would have been a Ranger–was way too Chaotic to be a Paladin. Now, I’m probably closer to Neutral Good, with Lawful tendencies, but melee combat is no longer my thing. I’d be an Archmage. With a selection of “wands” and “staves” that make loud booms and frequently need to be “recharged”.
Agreed, though I’d phrase it as ‘physical attractiveness’ - appearance can play into Charisma, but not necessarily in that way.
I had a barb, once, who had, either 14 or 16 Cha, despite looking like a mile of bad road (heavily scarred half orc, missing one tusk)…because he was 7’ tall, built like a linebacker, had multiple piercings (some of which were mystical crystals, later on) and many tattoos, and wove barbed wire into his beard and hair, so he was a scary looking son of a bitch that that you couldn’t possibly miss, and it took more balls than most people had to ignore (or not ignore if he said ‘I ain’t here, unnerstand?’). He was also possessed of a certain rough and tumble charm, and a bit of a softy when it came to kids, so it didn’t all go into his Intimidation.
Fer me… 6 Str, 6 Dex, 6 Con (yeah, my physical stats suck…), 14 Int, 10 Wis, 12 Cha. (With situational bonuses.) Bard.
The thing is how do we define what is average? (i.e, what is Str 11? Dex 11?) If I recalled correctly, scores in the range of 17-18 are Olympic level.
Str: 9 (Probably fail pull ups section of the military tests)
Dex: 7 (coordination problem)
Con: 10 (able to run 10km)
Int: 14 (being able to graduate with a degree in computer science is worth this much, I hope)
Wis: 15 (pride myself on being intuitive, perspective and empathic…)
Charisma: 6 (dump stat)
