I thought there wasn’t anything but i realized there was - gold. I have this snobbishness I can’t quite shake about any gold less than 22K. But that doesn’t mean I am always buying gold; in fact i rarely buy it - but when i do, I go to a gold store. I mean jewelry, btw, not just gold.
If I had lots and lots of money the first thing I’d do, after a car and a house, is buy a brand-new carbon-fiber bike in a custom color and all kinds of doodads with it. My bike is nice and all but I would love a really nice one.
I’m an L.A. Lakers fan living near Chicago. There’s a decent chance the Lakers will play Chicago in the NBA finals this year. If they do, I’d probably spend up to 400 or 500 dollars for a ticket to one of the games (especially game 5 or 6, which is the clincher in most series).
There’s a Frank Lloyd Wright prairie style on the market for about $1.5 mil. The previous owners attempted to bring it up to date and ruined it. It would probably take another million to restore it. Crazy? Maybe, but totally worth it to me.
In the past, it’s been food and travel. I love staying in luxury hotels and eating in the best restaurants. I wouldn’t (didn’t) do it all the time, but for special occasions, definitely.
If I won the lottery, I’d chuck my cheap furniture and go nuts at Thos. Moser.
One more for wine. Once you get a taste for the good stuff it’s near impossible to drink plonk anymore. When I left my last job I bought myself a bottle of 1990 Quintarelli Amarone Classico as a parting gift. I have had to curtail my spending since the little monkeys came along, so the cellar is not quite as impressive as it used to be.
And my home theatre system cost about two months salary, but that was a one time deal which should last at least 10 years
