Quick question about my cat’s health. All his behavior has been perfectly normal lately.
Just looked over at him, and he had a very thick rope of white spit(?) hanging from his face stuck to the ground. It was about 6 inches long and the consistency of snot. Didn’t notice any hacking sounds coming from the room he was in earlier. I went over to him and wiped it off with a rag, he seemed thankful and went about his business. Has tons of energy like normal. I only ask cause I’ve never seen him do that before.
I’ve seen that with my cats but can’t provide an explanation. My cats have been observed eating centipedes and spiders, I wondered if it was from that.
Cats usually drool when they are in pain, quite often from gum disease. Have you ever had its teeth cleaned? In any case, if you see it again, take it to a vet.
I’ve seen that in my cats during pre-hairball-horking. Like they tried to get the hairball up and only got snot. Also if they had a passing digestive upset… the snot type stuff might or might not be vomited with food. All in all, if he’s not acting unusual, and it doesn’t recur repeatedly, don’t worry about it. As someone said, he might have eaten a bug.
It’s been my experience that drooling as a symptom of needing a dental cleaning happens all the time and it’s not… snotty. Just wet. Also accompanied by stank breath.
Check inside his/her mouth for any growths or infections, etc. This happened with my cat after he had a tumor in his gum, which you couldn’t see until it got too big to be taken care of… (although the big drool like that didn’t happen until the tumor was clearly visible if I remember correctly)
I’m Will’s fiance and was in the room when it happened. It was by far the grossest thing I have ever seen. I had to tell him to take care of him because I was just gagging.
And the cat does he eat flies like they’re going out of style, so maybe that had something to do with it?
We had an unusual type of flying insect get into the house earlier in the spring… and we did enjoy interesting pukes for a bit. That could be it.
I have seen my cats throw up stuff that I didn’t know a living creature could create and not be terminally ill. I’m talking slick, thick disgusting phlegm, with nothing to indicate it’s a hairball or an average food upset. They’ll show no indication that they are sick in any other way. If it happens repeatedly, or if the cat is ‘off’ in any other way, I’ll bring them to the vet.
Now, puking up just liquid combined with being off their food? It’s an immediate trip to the vet. We had a cat who’d get a bowel obstruction a few times a year, and that’s the indicators.
