What kind of car charger for a Tracfone?

I was given an old fashioned flip phone, a Tracfone Alcatel A206G, to keep in the car for emergencies, and I charge it in the house when the battery gets low. I was thinking of getting a charger for the car that I can plug into the cigarette lighter. I admit I know nothing about cell phones or chargers and am wondering what kind to get. I’ve looked on Amazon and am more confused than ever, all kinds, all prices, I just don’t know. I mean, the phone cost less than $20!

I’ve contacted Tracfone who said just go to Walmart or someplace and pick up a charger for the car I can plug into the cigarette lighter. No one knows crap at Walmart, of course, I would go there and still not know.

Someone enlighten this dummkopf senior citizen?

One end of any car charger will fit the cigarette lighter/power port in the car. It’s the other end you need to be careful about – there are many different shapes/sizes of charging ports used on various phones. Often the easiest way to get one that fits your particular phone is to match it up, actually plug the charger wire into the phone to make sure it fits. Many chargers are packaged with the plug sticking out of the package so you can do this without tearing anything open.

Years ago I saw chargers that came with about a half dozen different end plugs that attached to the cord, so that you could buy one item that would work with a variety of devices. If these are still available, there’s a good chance one of the plugs would fit your phone – but still try it before you buy it.

Go to eBay and search for

Looking at the mobile charging cables for this phone, I believe the port is a micro USB. You probably have a few of these cords already lying around. I know I have at least a dozen. You can use any of them and pop them into a car USB charger.

OK, I think I found one…thanks for the information.

A word of warning – Tracfone is discontinuing support for the old 2G phones. I recently had to ditch mine. So even if you’re just planning to use it for emergencies, I don’t know if it will be able to connect.

Note that you can probably buy a brand new Tracfone for the cost of the charger.

If so, I will only be out $6 or so. You know, I had a feeling I received an already-obsolete gift a year or so ago, but if it comes down to it, I will just get a new kind of emergency phone for the car.
