1997 Red Accura Integra. At the time, there were not a lot of enviro-friendly cars on the market. I looked for one that got relatively high milage and was favored by consumer reports. After this one kicks the bucket, I will once again try to get one that gets high milage. (My last car was a Honda CRX and even when it died it was still getting nearly 45 miles to the gallon.)
My mums car I beleive its a 1997 Honda Civic 5dr 1.4i Its the Honda that was also a Rover so there’s a very-out-of-place-for-a-Japanese-car strip of (fake) wood along the dashboard. The engine has a bit more poke than other similar sized European cars for its size (sadly its not a VTEC) but the handling just feels all wrong after a few years rolling my mums old 1996 Renault Clio through the bends. The Clio lacked a gear and roughly 200cc and was an ergonomic nightmare when driving but like a lot of small European cars, through the twisty stuff it felt so much better.
Same here (down to the color–Java Black Pearl), only we have the automatic. We bought it in August, and it already has ~10K miles on it (the wife has a long commute, and I got laid off, so she gets to drive it). It’s a great car, and when we’ve paid it off, we’ll likely get another. My wife thought the heated seats were very silly…then it got cold…now she LOVES them
Also have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 (dark red) with 86K. Think it might need some tranny work–it’s getting difficult to shift (also an automatic).
I drive a 1998 Chevy Lumina. It’s a sort of dark periwinkle blue. I just got it in November. I love it to pieces. It is sturdy, the front wheel drive handles great and it is one of the least stolen cars that GM makes. It also scores very well on the collision test. Now I only need to get better sound in it.
My last car was a 1996 Grand Prix and it was nothing but trouble–it had an experimental engine(the only year for that engine) or some such crap like that and maintainance was a nightmare. You had to nearly pull the whole friggin engine just to change the altenater, which we did twice.
Ah yes, ptr2void - I had heated seats in the Audi, so I had to have them again. Did you add on the leather? I didn’t get the super-duper premium XS, so I had to pay extra to have leather put in. LOVE your location, BTW.
The Mermaid, I hope you do the “Brad Pitt the Gypsy from Snatch” voice every time you say the color…
White 1988 Lincoln Town Car, aka the “Stinkin’ Lincoln”-- piece of crap that’s falling apart, stalls every time I hit the brakes or turn the wheel, but it was free. You get what you pay for, I guess.
1997 Mercury Tracer…why, because I could afford it and Rico were getting together so I was looking for one that he could fit in. He’s 6’6" so it was difficult finding one I could afford that he could get in and out of without hitting his head. Oh, green.
Well, since my wife has weighed in with her $0.02…
My company car is a 1987 Ford Bronco 4X4, nicknamed The Goat. Brown with the Eddie Bauer package.
Why? I am employed by a two-way radio company. At times, our technicians need to travel to the tops of mountains to maintain or repair our repeater sites. When it’s rainy the Goat is the only vehicle that will make it up the mountain. It has my ham radio equipment in it and it is FUN to drive!
Now - my other car - when I travel to Utah to get it - is a 1989 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. It was the last car my Dad and I bought together before his death in 1996. My mom cannot drive it anymore, since she is in a wheelchair. She bought herself a wheelchair van and I’m taking over the Cadillac.
Oh yes, it’s white and only has about 55,000 miles on it.
If I wanna go fast, I drive the '86 Carrera. If I wanna drive like a little old lady, I take the ‘02 Prius. And if I’m haulin’ kids and dogs and other stuff, I take the '92 4Runner. Or I’ll just jump on my fixed-gear bike and pedal like a maniac.
A piece of crap. Heh, I’m half serious here. The only reason I gripe is b/c cars are so dang expensive. You buy the things and then have to keep spending money on 'em even after they’re “paid for.” Arrr. At any rate, Sasha’s been good to me. She’s a 92 Toyota Tercel, silverish-green, four doors and really damn cute.
I bought it because I went to get a Cherokee because they were fazing them out and selling them cheap. They convinced me to test drive a Liberty as well and the difference was so drastic that I spent the extra money for it.
My grocery-getter is a '97 Acura 2.2 CL, 5 speed, white with grey interior. It has a sunroof and CD player and that is about all I need. I love the fact that it is small and easy to get around in. It gets really good gas mileage too. The downfall however, is the price of the stupid tires. I called today to get an estimate on tires and they quoted me 168 per tire!!! That is installed, but still. I didnt know the car had “performance tires” when I bought it. However, all I have ever had to do is get the oil changed, so I cant complain. It has almost 100K miles on it and I have had it since 2000. It only had 53K when I bought it.
1998 Saturn SL2. Power package, power sunroof, alloy wheels, air conditioning, spoiler, cd player and leather interior. It’s pearl white and has a mere 20,000 original miles.
