because I feel connected to road when I’m driving it, it corners like a dream and once you get in 2nd gear, the turbo makes your stomach sink. With snow tires, it will take you up the rockies in the worst of weather.
surprizingly, i haven’t had to put much money into it and we have a reputable shop here in boulder that takes great care of it.
Dah! No! That was supposed to be MY car! I swoon at the sight of the Chevy Nova. And the one I wanted was only $5000, but that’s a whole 'nother story.
Anyway, the car I drive. 1994 Dodge Intrepid, baby! That car kicks some serious ass. My parents gave it to me when I was in high school. I absolutely LOVE my car. I put it through hell and it still holds up. It’s the ES model, its got stock 16" silver and gold rims, power everything. It’s been affectionately nicknamed “The Family Sedan” and “The Pimptrepid”. I gots my Xenon headlights that my boyfriend gave to me which I would reccomend if you have an old model Intrepid like mine cuz the headlights SUCK.
Anyway, If you want a good reliable EXCELLENT for highway driving car, and cheap, you can’t go wrong with an old Intrepid.

It has to be. Otherwise, how could you find out what’s up with your car so that you can tell the dealer what precisely is wrong now? Most can’t seem to figure things out themselves. But hey, the less-than-spectacular VW dealer service depts/warrantee repairs are a thread for the Pit.
And to hijack my hijack – can anyone recommend an independent shop for regular maintenance/repair of VWs in the Northern VA/Quantico area?

Back to the OP. . . . Even though it’s January and he usually snug in the garage this time of year, I have been back in my 1992 VW Cabriolet the past few days due to a flooded Beetle. The Cabby’s the first car I picked out and paid for entirely by myself. I have a thing with this car. We just kinda bonded when I saw it sitting there, lightly covered with snow, six years ago two days after Christmas. When we got my other car, I couldn’t get rid of it, it would have been like giving away my cat or some such. Besides it’s the most reliable VW I’ve had (out of 4). Metallic green with a white top, manual, 88K (33K of which are mine), pretty much stock, at least until I can find a G60 that’s good candidate for rebuild and transplant.
My other vehicle is a 2000 VW New Beetle 1.8T just like the one in the Turbonium ads, 20K. My 25th birthday present to myself. I’d fallen in love with the Concept One when it showed up at the Detroit Auto Show in 1992 and had to wait 6 years till they were in production and then another 2 till I could afford one. I’ve been pretty happy with the car, just a few Stoopid VW problems, the most recent of which is blocked sunroof drains that resulted in so much water in the rear footwells that you could hear it sloshing around.
And the third member of our collective is Mr. Ben’s 2001 VW Passat V6 4Motion Wagon. We run our own tech consulting firm, and needed a larger vehicle for when we have to schlep stuff around. We’d been looking at SUV’s, but he drove a Passat and was sold. Great car, at least until 40K. The last 5K have been a bit of a challenge, but we’re off to a different shop next week.
