Francesca, I think you can also get brightly-designed cheques in the UK for an additional fee as well (when my ex and I banked at Lloyds, that was an option). I guess no one actually does, though.

I have that Blue Willow china pattern on mine and don’t like them at all, very old ladyish and fussy. I’m sure the recipients are dismayed to see I didn’t crochet the envelope.
Before these, my checks were quite nice, subtle swirly colors like parchment, but nobody makes 'em anymore. Egads, I can’t believe I’m still bummed at my favorite check design being discontinued.
I change my checks every time I’m near the end of the present batch!

Seriously, though, I got my first checking account at 17. I had that for one and a hakf years, wrote a total of three checks. Gkd bless debit cards. My current checking account I’ve had for half a year and have never needed to write a check, and don’t actually have any. I was thinking about ordering some, though, just in case.
My checks (being the geek I am) have one of four different Marvel superheroes on them: either Spider-Man, Wolverine, the Incredible Hulk, or Captain America.
Mine have pretty little birdies on 'em. Bluebirds, Redbirds, and little yellow birds.

Mine are just plain old cream colored with maroon lines going horizontally on them. Clarke American makes them. They’re the cheapest ones I could get from the Credit Union. But, being the artistic soul I am, I’m thinking I might splurge next time and get something unique.
