AG actually has one of those! Heh.
As a straight guy with a bellybutton piercing, I second this one. Be ahead of the curve.
nothing ubangi
I agree. My tongue piercing is by far the favourite of all my piercings, and I have quite a lot.
Don’t get the back of your neck pierced. Your hair gets tangled in it, then you forget you have the piercing and yank your hair…
XJETGIRLX, now that you’ve chimed in, I realize I was thinking of you.
I think when someone asks, “What’s that?” the appropriate response is, “It’s a test of your manners. Do you want to know how you did?”
I agree. I live near a college campus, and each year there are new kids enrolled who get pierced and tattooed so they can express their individuality…like everyone else…
Whatever you decide, make it somewhere you can easily cover with professional clothes.
Ya know…sometimes people do things because they just honestly like it.
Of course, that’s the only reason anyone ever does it, isn’t it?
Well, from the responses (and cool link, I didn’t know that there was a bme wiki, but I do browse bmezine.com a lot), I think I may have narrowed it down to my original anti-tragus, nipples (there seems to be a lot of interest in that, and that was something that AG had given his blessing for, also), and this super-cool UFO piercing that I’ve never heard of before, but looks neat.
Bellybutton is a no. I’m kinda on the hefty side (6’0", 220#) and I don’t want to expose the piercer to that. He might catch The Fat.
That’s pretty sweet. I haven’t seen it before, either. Here’s hoping you have the ears for it!
I get a lot of comments on my rook - it’s not very outre, but it’s cute and people seem to like it. Also, I still got hired as a librarian.
I had one of my nipples pierced several years ago. I took the piercing out after eight or nine months because it still wasn’t completely healed - my other piercings have healed very quickly, so I figured I’d given this one enough time and it just wasn’t working out. Anyway, while I had it in, I loved it, and I would highly recommend it.
I have a lip and eyebrow piercing and have worked in professional offices; I take my jewelry out in the morning before I get to work, and put it back in as soon as I punch out.
A note on nipple piercings. They do take a long time to completely heal, that is normal. Mine took several months. The girl who pierced me said that it was different for everyone, but generally you’re going to have to deal with ‘crusties’ for some time no matter what. But after that stage, everything’s a-okay.
My work here is done.
(Spreading bobo-ness since 1985)
I seriously dig the bridge of the nose piercing, but chaoticbear said no face, so I got nothing.
That was a choice, because I REALLY want those cool frameless glasses. However, both work and AG have told me no. (I could wear a clear spacer in it for work, but what’s the point of piercings if you have to put clear things in them?)
I love my new belly-button piercing. I had almost no pain and have had no problems at all.
Maybe I’ll ask Rico to post a pic of it- I think it’s looks hot…

Go for a fingernail. No pain or infection, and you can change your mind. Hang little bells on 'em, or castanets.

Here’s one from a humorist at least 40 years ago. Run a stainless steel chain from one ear to a little tag laid between cheek and gum. When people ask where the chain goes, tell them you have a wee little bucket inside your stomach, and you haul it up twice a day to sample stomach acid. This will seriously squick people out.
I loved my tongue piercing while it lasted, about 5 years.
I discourage cartilege piercings. I had some that got slightly torn at a concert (mosh pit, 'nuff said) and they got infected and I nearly lost my upper ear. It took 3 months of hardcore antibiotics to stop the infection, and the doc warned me to never again pierce that part of my body as there might yet be small “pockets” of infection in the cartilege. NOT WORTH IT.
I’ve also heard that belly button piercings are easily infected too. Nipple piercings on the other hand I’ve only heard good things about (except on the rare occasion that they get torn out, ouch!)
Hehe, I giggled at “catch The Fat”.
I know it’s in the face… sort of, but I’ll suggest it anyway just in case because it’s the one I have :D. Septum piercing! It’s really neat, you can play with it, and if you’re wearing a curved barbell you can hide it at any time you want just by flipping it up into your nose. Easy to wash, fast to heal, makes your eyes water during piercing but actually there’s not a lot of pain - it was less pain than my earlobe piercings. Plus, if you decide to take it out one day, your scar won’t be visible.
I quite enjoy mine.
Of course, this is just a suggestion. I figured I’d explain why I adore my septum.
I just wasn’t sure if this counted as being “in the face” because you can hide it at any point when you want to.
Good luck with whatever you choose!
Oh now that would be so perfect for me, as I have a seriously deviated septum (way too much coke in the 80’s…)! I wouldn’t even have to pierce it- I could just slip the jewelry through the hole.
I would be afraid of looking like a cow, though…
