What kind of hair product did Brad Pitt use in Fight Club?

I am assuming that this is the kind of question that doesn’t really matter much to anyone, which I guess will make it harder to answer. But I am sure that if any group of people on the internet can answer, it will definitely be the SDMB.

In Fight Club, Brad Pitt sports a spiky/faux messy hair style. The kind of style you can do with your natural oils after not having showered in a a few days. Whatever was actually used to style it has a very natural looking texture, which gives the illusion that nothing was used. I hate it when one can tell that product was used and that is why I am very curious as to what is going on his head.

I’m really hoping it isn’t some $100+ Hollywood product but I’m sure I can find a substitute if I can find out what the product actually was.

Can anyone help?

I have no idea what he actually used, but a product I have used to similar effect is Rusk’s Wired – “Multiple personality styling creme.”

That’s what my boyfriend’s hair is like, and he uses some American Crew wax, the kind that comes in the little pot, and it’s kind of solid. I think the key is to not using a lot of it.

Is it American Crew Fiber? Fiber has a blue label, is pale yellow, kinda stiff and smells nice.

For several years, there have been rumors and tabloid stories which say that Brad Pitt’s hygiene is poor. Maybe his hair wasn’t artificially dirty in Fight Club. Maybe it was genuinely dirty.

Wax or pomade is the easiest way to get the messy, not stiff look. All my guy friends and the bf use it. It holds but you can manipulate it too if it gets messed up and no crunchyness like with gel or hairspray. Just don’t use too much.

Could be, but IMDB says the film had a hair stylist, personal makeup artist for Brad Pitt, and a “hair consultant,” all the sort of folks who want to justify their employment. I bet if he came in looking like that, they would clean him up and make him look like that all over again themselves.
