When my father came back from a trip to the southwest (Arizona that I know of) he brought back a few pieces of jewelry he’d bought. One was a silver-colored ring with red and blue stone set into it. What style is this? I’m assuming Native American, but is there a specific tribe that does this?
Can you provide an image we can look at?
Sadly no, at this time. The stone is inlaid, not set on top the way diamonds and such are in wedding bands.
Arizona is known for Navajo silver jewelry. Is this the style you are referring to?
The Zuni are well known for their inlay jewelry. See, for example, some of the stuff at this guy’s site (Ignore the prices, they strike me as laughably high. ($6500 for a bracelet? Really?!)). The red stone in this linked site’s pictures is spiny oyster, though I’ve heard of coral, agate, or petrified wood also being used. The blue stone is usually turquoise. White can be mother of pearl, or howlite. Black’s usually jet, onyx, or obsidian. An example of the rich variety of inlaid stone may be found here.
Yes, the Zuni seems most similar. Thanks!
