What kind of picture light would work for a 38" x 51" painting?

I have a painting that’s 38 inches wide by 51 inches high, and I need to get a picture light for it. I am not sure what kind of light would effectively illuminate something this large. Does anyone have experience with this?

Here are some examples. It would be a plug-in light. What is best, a horizontal bar or a spotlight? If a bar, how wide? Does the type of bulb make a difference?

The most difficult to install, but best light would be a shuttered spotlight high up and in front of the painting, and framed so that the light doesn’t spill past the edges of the painting. This gives an amazing illumination, where the rest of the room can be dark and the painting seems to glow all by itself, with no light source being noticeable.
