What kind of treatment plans are available for Trump supporters?

We have a very large self-identified population with what appears to be either mental illnesses or deficiencies or both?

What can we do for them?

Probably the best longterm approach is to gradually undercut the importance of religion in American life. There are a few ways to do this without using coercion.

Whiffle bats and shock collars?

The insane ye shall always have with ye.

You can’t fix stupid.

A sure-fire way would be to install Donald in the White House for 4 years. This cure may be worse than the disease though.

I suspect they may be witches. Trial by ordeal would seem to be in order.

I wished that worked. But history has shown it not true.

The idiots that voted for Rob Ford in Toronto weren’t poofed out of existence when we stood on our chairs and shouted “WE FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!! YOU FUCKING IDIOTS! YOU COULD SEE HE WAS A TRAINWRECK FROM A MILE AWAY!”

Has the US always had a problem with ignorant and angry lower class people? How did other countries avoid this problem? Why are the ones in the US so vocal?

Weirdness.

Other countries didn’t and aren’t. They just don’t get as much international coverage, nor do their election campaigns drag on for the nearly two years that the Americans indulge for themselves.

It’s worth noting that the U.S. is a single country has nearly the same population as what we generally call “Western Europe”. If you could picture an extended campaign for “President of the EU” (there is a vague equivalent - “President of the European Commission” - but that office has a tiny fraction of the power of a U.S. President) that was driven by personality and muckraking politics and lip-service to religious groups, etc., then I don’t doubt you’d get the comparable level of nuttiness, and in multiple languages.

The Right could disavow the crazies on Fox News and in their own congressional halls. The Left could hold off on the speed of social change. Both won’t because it’ll hurt their base support, of course.

Both sides have an interest in promoting globalism and working to limit it’s abuses and negative effects.

I recommend changing the title of this thread to: “What kind of treatment plans are available for Hillary Haters?”

This would tend to focus input and analysis for clinical diagnoses and medication regimens more on the root cause of the Trump phenomenon.

The only sure cure is embalming fluid. This is their last great hurrah. Every year, the US gets less rural and less white and younger. Every year, there will be fewer Trump voters than the year before. There will not be another would be despot with the charisma of Trump again, he is the first and last of his kind.

Some people are willfully ignorant. Arguably, MOST people are willfully ignorant about some aspect of life. Who do you think is falling for Nigerian 419 scam emails? I’ve got news for you; they aren’t all Trumpists.

When Trump is gone, they’ll be ignorant about something else.

Alas, ignorance is not the exclusive domain of white Trump supporters. I’m not sure why you think Trump is the last of his kind.

Can we give them what they ostensibly “want”? Round them all up with Black helicopters, take their guns away, and lock them in FEMA “concentration camps” (which will have to be built, of course).

Then they’ll all get to be happy, saying “we were right!” and yet not be able to cause trouble. Given them a cookie, pat them on the head, and sent them to bed.

Just my modest proposal.

Sort of like the joke about Baptists in Heaven having to be segregated, because they won’t be happy unless they think they are the only ones there.

Uh? The U.S. isn’t getting younger; the median age has been increasing since 1970, albeit very slowly in recent years. This will likely continue until the Baby Boomers start dying in significant numbers.

Granted, what is happening is that every new voter who reaches the age of 18 is much more likely to see gay marriage and abortion access and immigration and as less of a big deal, and if this cohort voted at the same rates as people 65 and older, I’m sure there’d be significant political effects.

This may be a last great hurrah, but it’s likely to drag out for another decade or two.

The Trump movement is not based on religion. His main ideological appeal is nationalism, protectionism, racism, anti-establishment anger, and anti-left/PC culture. The alt-right is not religious, especially among the younger crowd who are often fairly anti-religious. Trump himself has made some attempts to appeal to the religious right, but they were transparent pandering.

Oh yeah, and who is going to pay for those camps??

I know, but those issues are harder to address. Nibbling away at religion will erode the kind of base that makes a candidate like Trump possible, or at least weakens the irrational hatred for Democrat opponents.

Or so goes my theory, anyway. It certainly couldn’t hurt.
