Here’s a song that few people will probably be familiar with, outside of fans of a niche of 80s jazz fusion - and most fans of the overall jazz genre probably would loathe it. Wizard Island, by the Jeff Lorber Fusion (apparently where Kenny G got his start, although he’s not featured in this video, whose sax player might actually look MORE ridiculous than Kenny G.)
The particular melody I’m talking about here begins at precisely :27 seconds in the linked video. I swear to God, it sounds almost exactly like the intro music for one of the many late-nite TV shows from the early 90s that I would have heard at home as a kid, when my parents were watching TV. But I cannot pinpoint which one. It’s NOT Jay Leno, and it’s NOT Donohue (I looked up their theme music already.) Does anyone feel like taking a crack at it? Or am I simply hearing in it a sort of pastiche of all of those talk-show themes, and my brain is trying to tie it to one specific one?
