My son’s 5th birthday is at the end of this month.
It is nearly impossible to find just Hot Wheels Race Tracks and connectors ( I can get them on Ebay, but I do try to buy locally when possible, any one willing to part with their own tracks and connectors or has links to a regular virtual storefront, I would be appreciative.)
Anywhoooo, I was going to get a Hot Wheels race car track set with a motorized thingie that pushes the car through at Mach 97, like when we were kids, that will provide ample hours of not only entertainment for my progeny, but give my walls lotsa dings and makes the dog a moving target. (She needs her exercise.)
Except the one I wanted at the store was $19, which I didn’t have on me that day. Then it went on sale the next week and was sold out when I went in to get it.
So, through Amazon, I found the exact same thing for…$5.61. With free shipping.
I have waited since the pregnancy test came back positive for the birthday of which I can give Hot Wheels and the track to my children as a present to mysel…my child. And it is nearly here.
The thing that most made me happy today is: I got a job offer :D. I was also happy to get my SDMB Book Swap email, and happy that I was able to go to lunch with my boyfriend (he’s rarely here during the week).
I am also happy that I’m able to help edit my little sister’s and her friend’s term papers. I have gotten to learn a lot about FDR and about famous criminals, and I’m also enjoying practicing my editing skills, which I haven’t been able to do in a while.
Talking to my boyfriend via AIM. I spent a good chunk of my workday flirting long distance. It makes me giggle.
I also got to go to lunch with my sister and my 3 year old niece. She is a cutie-patootie. She held my hand while we walked down the street to the restaurant. She’s adorable.
I was just out driving in the '67 Chrysler I fixed up this winter. While stopped at a stop sign, two little kids ran up to the open window to tell me “Nice car.” Always makes me happy when people compliment me on something I spent so much time on.
Oh, and being reminded of the Hot Wheels collection that I had whenever I was a kid brought a smile to my face today.
It all started yesterday. I took my boss, (a long time friend) who is going through some tough times in his personal life, out for a couple of beers. We go out every once in a while, but it is his 60th B-day and I got him out of the plant early so some of the girls in my dept. could decorate his office. They really did a job, and he spent the morning calling me ten different kinds of asshole (he was kidding of course) for setting him up.
So for my penance, I offered to take him out for lunch. Another set-up! All three of his departments were waiting for us to arrive for his suprise B-Day lunch. He was very surprised and I haven’t seen him that happy for a long time.
We have been friends for twenty years and in that time, I have been his boss, we have been project managers together, and he has been my boss. Seeing him happy today, made me happy.
We had a crazy, unexpected snow storm today, and I got to come home from work early. Nothing like drinking wine and watching a Buffy DVD at 3 on a Thursday afternoon.
Well, my car was stolen Monday, and I got it back last night a bit worse for the wear but otherwise OK. I needed new tires though, and did a bunch of running around this morning to get new rims/tires/etc. Normally, I’d be able to change them myself (from the donut to the standard) but I’m seven months preggy and was wearing white, so I pulled into a service station expecting to shell out $20 or so for the privilege of not getting myself grimy black from head to toe. The guy immediately jacked up the car, switched the tire–chatting pleasantly with me the whole time–and then only charged me $3!! I was so excited, I gave him five and considered it a bargain.
Now I’ve got enough moolah left over to take my kid out for ice cream after work, and that will make me happy too.
The same thing that makes me happy every day- I came out of the bathroom after my shower, the dog saw me, got that “Oh goodie it’s YOU!” look on his cute little face, and started wagging his tail like mad. Never fails to make me smile.
