I was cleaning my office today and noticed that it wasn’t looking any cleaner, but many things were being put away, and over all I made a great deal of progress.
Then just a little while a go I did another look and it looked much better, or less cluttered, actually not cluttered anymore.
What is it that makes something look cluttered? I suspect that you need a good deal of open desk, shelf and counter space.
I agree that open space is the key. For me, it was hard to recognize the value of open space. It was harder still to create open space because it meant getting rid of some of my crap.
It helps to have the stuff you keep organized neatly, but even when things are neatly stacked up, your area will still look cluttered if there’s no open space.
Now that I’ve developed an appreciation of open space, I kind of enjoy throwing things way. I enjoy even more giving things away to people who can use them. People really love getting free stuff.
