It’s the combination of the formal suit, the formal glasses, the carefully coiffed hair, and his serious expression and purposeful pose. It’s not so much “European”, it’s “government official.”
It’s not just that picture, and there’s also something about his face. To me, it doesn’t say “European” so much as “Slavic”, maybe Polish. I have no idea why, except that either there’s someone of that ethnicity that he reminds me of, or something about the features (maybe the chin?) are suggestive of it. There is none of that ancestry in his background, though – Wikipedia says he’s part Welsh and has distant French ancestry.
Right, but there’s something about the hair, glasses and suit that screams “wannabe aristocrat”. American government officials, OTOH, lean more towards “wannabe businessman.”
Jeebus christ he got old. He was a real heroic guy 16 years ago in Casino Royale. Or even in his more recent Bond films. In that vid he just looks like a mild mannered old bureaucrat who owns too many cats.
I’m 10 years his senior and I’d fancy my chances in a brawl with him today. Not even remotely so when we were both 15 years younger.
I think it’s also the fit of the suit – fitted close to the body but not so much as to be uncomfortable or to limit movement. And the color scheme of the clothes, and yes, the hair and glasses. My impression of upper-level European bureaucrats generally checks all those boxes.
Was this photo of him in an acting part? If so, what kind of role was it?
He’s apparently about 54 or 55. He certainly looks older here, and in his IMDB page also an apparently recent head shot looks 10 years older than that. It’s not pretty being that pale and that old.
Actually no I can’t. All those pix upthread are hosted at X. Which is blocked at my firewall. As are all things Facebook. I do not exist to them and they do not exist to me. You might be able to see them, but not me.
That’s my fault, not the poster’s fault. Hence my request for an alternate source of the same info.
