What makes you sad/What pleases you?

Makes me sad…

No more BSG.

Heroes has become rubbish.

No more harry potter literature.

Terry Ratchet has Altimeters (According to firebox spellbinder)

Pleases me…

‘Caprica’ is WAY WAY better than expected.

Three more Harry Potter films.

Roald Dahl can and will be re-read by adult self.

Star Trek with cylar as spok.

Apparently life begins at 30 so that’s good because I’m 30.

What makes me sad?

My grandchildren don’t call me or come to see me. It’s been a year since I’ve seen the girls. Six months since my grandson picked up his birthday money. Two of them live here in town.

Dwelling on not having as many options open to me as I did twenty or thirty years ago. This relates mostly to travelling by myself or toying with the idea of moving somewhere else like Ireland or the coast of Maine.

Not having the energy to find a place to put everything.

What makes me happy?

independence, being married to the right person, driving down that sunroad to the sea with Dannye every autumn, eating at the Waffle House, the memory of Tinker Toys, the balance of scent and taste of Indian curries, the flush of an idea for a line of poetry in the back of my mind, Mancini, Jobim, my friends at the Club, Pumpkin the cat, my screened in front porch of white wicker, blue and white stripes and geraniums, being useful, CC’s house of art and color, sunrise, fresh breath…

Lobsang, I came in to say two of the same things as you.

Sad:

The final moments of Battlestar Galactica, made my cry. That’s right, cry like a big dumb homo!*

Happy:

Caprica was indeed a lot better than my hopes had allowed for. Slightly better than BSG’s pilot movie, actually.

Bear McCreary will release 3 CD’s of BSG related music this year. He is going to release:

  1. Season 4’s soundtrack, which comprises of 1 CD for episodes 1-19, and one whole disc containing the music from the finale.

  2. The Plan’s soundtrack.

  3. Caprica’s soundtrack.

*To be read in Liz Lemon’s ridiculously rude boyfriend’s voice.

Sad:
I spent years working to get three college degrees, only to be trapped in part-time multiple campus jobs because getting a FT position in my field is now almost impossible.
My friend/neighbor/handyman has lymphoma.

Happy: Mom is a breast cancer survivor.
My troubled gallbladder has been removed, and I feel much better.
Taking walks around the neighborhood with a pal.
Selling lots of stuff on eBay.
Only one room left to remodel.
Going to the spa.
And more. Fortunately, there is more happy than sad.

:smack: Sorry! My mind went to IMHO polls. Ignore previous post.

Okay, media stuff:

Sad: that the rest of you folks have cable and get to watch BSG and other fine shows long before I ever get to see them.

Happy: that I get to see them on a lovely Panasonic plasma 42-inch high def TV.

I would put what makes me happy or sad in general, but in the interest of staying on topic, I will stick to media stuff. Not dissing Zoe or viva, in fact I thank them for their contribution; I just don’t want to bore you guys with my troubles.

What makes me sad:

[ul]
[li]Not having time to watch prime-time TV lately, so I tend to miss most of the shows discussed in Cafe Society. I did not see a single episode of the new Battlestar Galactica, and haven’t followed Ugly Betty for over a year.[/li]
[li]The same goes for my manga and anime. I have all these series that I haven’t even started to watch. I have the whole first season of One Piece and Saiunkoku, 3 DVDs of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and the first DVD of Haibane Renmei, which makes me sad because when I tried to buy the second volume at a con, the dealer told me it was $30, roughly about how much it costs at Borders, and also out of print. I had less than $30 and the dealers room was about to close, so I gave up, unwilling to even attempt to haggle under pressure. I might still continue to look for the remaining volumes, but not right now.[/li]
[li]Don’t even get me started on Bleach. I have up to episode 50 on DVD, and just slogged my way through the Bounto filler arc on Adult Swim, having skipped though great chunks of these eps thanks to the magic of DVR. Hope the regular storyline is better.[/li]
[li]I am reading scanlations of the Naruto manga online, and Hinata confessed her love to Naruto as she tried to save his life, only to be injured by Pain, which caused Naruto to get mad and release 6 tails of the 9-tailed fox demon, which later increased to 8. Due to more stuff that happened that I don’t feel like typing right now (short version: the 4th Hokage came back in spirit form, kept him from releasing all 9 tails, and revealed himself to be Naruto’s dad), he had the seal put back on and is back to himself again, and is currently talking to the real body of Pain, who was in the midst of telling his life story in flashback when the manga went into hiatus for Golden Week! Arrgh! And on top of that, because of what has happened lately Naruto still hasn’t had a chance to respond to Hinata’s confession, other than weeping with relief when he learned she was alive. She survived her injuries because Sakura found her and healed her in time, but as she did so, Sakura looked sad when she realized why Hinata did what she did. It looks like she has finally developed feelings for Naruto as well. I’m hoping he realizes how precious Hinata is to him, and tells her so when he returns to what remains of the village, but there’s a chance Kishimoto could just make Sakura confess her feelings also and have Naruto end up with her after all, since he liked her first. It would make sense, but I’m still rooting for Hinata. A catfight over Naruto would be funny, but this isn’t shojo, so I doubt we will see that. [/li][/ul]

What makes me happy: [ul]
[li]I have my library card back, so I can check out books again and not have to spend so much at Borders. Plus I don’t want to have so much clutter around, since it looks like we will be getting two puppies soon! Don’t worry, there will be pictures.[/li][li]I have been reading Tail of the Moon, a manga about a girl named Usagi who wants to be a ninja but is quite untalented, at least at first, and is arranged to be married to the head of another ninja clan, who refuses her at first but seems to be developing feelings for her. Imagine Usagi (they even have the same name!) from Sailor Moon being dropped into the Naruto universe without her powers and you pretty much have it. It’s fluffy romance, but I am really enjoying it, when I do have time to read it.[/li][li] I recently bought a copy of Putumayo’s “Music from the Tea Lands” to replace the one I lost last year. I just put the songs from it on my iPod. This makes me happy because this was my go-to CD for relaxation for several years, and I’m glad to have it again. [/li][/ul]

What makes me sad:

Same as Lobsang, no more Harry Potters. (And I’m 39!)

Oh, and the what Zoe said about her grandchildren. :frowning:

What makes me happy:

My family, my job, my home, my land, pretty much everything.

Oh, and SpikeTV and Comedy Central are finally in HD on Dish Network. Just waiting for G4…

Stop right there! You haven’t started watching the masterpiece that is Haruhi Suzumiya yet? Make that your top priority.

(And note that the first episode, “Episode 00”, is rather different from the last, being an amateur movie made by the SOS Brigade, which you only get introduced to in the next episode. It becomes much funnier after you get to know the SOS Brigade better. Note also that the episodes can be watched in several different orders, and in one ordering, Episode 00 is the 11th episode. List of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya episodes)

**Sad: **
That it’s been almost a thousand years since they canceled Freaks and Geeks and I’m still upset about it.

Losing my perfect little low budget show with all the pop culture references I can handle (The Middleman)

I’m watching completely different shows compared to two years ago. Not because I lost interest in the old shows but because they just suck now. House, Bones, 24, Lost I’m talkin’ 'bout you!

Happy:
We not have Chuck and The Big Bang Theory, both are excellent TV shows targeted towards the nerd demographic!

That, even though the the quality is not there, I can still go to a friends house on Mondays and enjoy Jack Bauer’s ass kicking.

Bittorrent, Hulu and Tivo give me three different ways of watching any and all shows I could possibly want. Even if they have conflicting schedules.

Sad:

That mediocre movies like “Dark Knight” are so popular while the truly great movie, “Watchmen”, failed at the box office.

That drek like “Battlestar Galactica”, “Heroes”, and “Lost” are so popular.

That the once-great show of “24” has become even drekier than the above. And that despite this, I continue to force myself to watch it.

That the writers of the once-great show of “Prison Break” aren’t even trying to use any of what made the first season great and that because of that, I have to say that it deserves to be cancelled.

That truly entertaining shows like “Chuck” aren’t more popular and get cancelled.

That in the 21st century, so many people believe that hearing “bad words” or seeing a woman’s naked breast are so harmful that movies and even documentaries shown on TV have to be butchered.

That the new James Bond movies are drek.

Happy:

My TiVo, and being able to fast forward through commercials.

Watching “Deadliest Catch” and knowing that there are people like that in the world.

Being able to watch all the early, great seasons of “Stargate” on DVD.

Being able to watch all the previous James Bond movies on DVD, to get the current crap out of my mind.

That the first season of “Earth, Final Conflict” is finally coming out on DVD.

Sad, Lindsay Davis’s books degenerating from historical thrillers into Chick Lit.
Pterry getting alzheimers.
The death of Patrick O’Brien,no more Aubery Maturin stories.
Glad,Family Guy
NCIS
