And Kanye West is not Cornell West.
Interesting choice of words.
I would say that that’s pretty accurate. Anyone younger than 25 or so might only be familiar with Mark Wahlberg the actor and not make the association with Marky Mark the classic dance tune from 1991.
I was always pretty much impressed with his acting ability. Even his older pre-Boogie Nights films like Renaissance Man and The Basketball Diaries.
He was pretty funny in Date Night and The Other Guys.
FYI, his brother Donnie Wahlberg was in New Kids on The Block and has enjoyed a fair amount of acting success as well.
That gives an ENTIRELY new perspective on Dennis the Menace…
Psst! His brother, Donnie, also now an actor, used to be with New Kids on the Block.
I never took him seriously at all before his acting career. I just saw him as kind of a lame rapper and a model who was known for being willing to pull his pants down. It was the move, Fear, that won my respect when he turned in a genuinely menacing and scary performance. Something I never would have expecred out of “Marky Mark.”
My thoughts exactly.
Anyone younger than 30, I suspect. Twenty-five year olds were born in 1985. They know as much about NKOTB-era music as they know about Menudo.
Right? Me, too.
I love Mark Wahlberg. What surprised me was the whole “goes to church every single day” thing.
I don’t think we should hold things over people’s heads forever, but I’ve always been a little peeved that no one cares that Marky Mark blinded some guy when he was 16 while yelling racial epithets at him.
It’d be nice if he gave him some money.
I wouldn’t say that “no one cares.” I certainly care. And it’s one of the aspects about him that I find most intriguing. I have to admit that I wonder if he’s really shut down his demons or if he’s just doing a really good job masquerading them for now a la Mel Gibson?
I’ve read his interviews and he’s never tried to brush off his crimes. He seems introspective and remorseful. I can’t say that I know that he’s given his victims any money or a heartfelt apology, nor can I say that he hasn’t.
Another odd thing about Wahlberg is that he’s apparently a really good golfer. I doubt he got much playing time during his youth, so I find it really interesting that he was able to get so good in such a short amount of time.
He claims to be a devout Catholic, yet had several kids with his girlfriend before he married her.
He’s sure an interesting person, if nothing else.
Whoa, that’s the first of heard of this. What happened?
I think it’s probably why he’s so religious now. Trying to make up for his misspent youth.
I didn’t see Boogie Nights until years later, so the first thing I saw Wahlberg in was Three Kings. And I remember saying to myself “Hey, that Marky Mark guy was really good! Who would have guessed?”
He’s still the markiest Mark I’m aware of. Are there any markier Marks I haven’t heard of?
Make that two!
Hey donkey, how’s it goin?
Say hi to your mother for me.
Funky bunch /= Brady Bunch
Yup, and he’s definitely not the only ex-con in the business. Danny Trejo looks more like the part; he’s that guy with the deeply-lined and marked face who plays a whole lot of bad guys, and most recently starred in Machete. He grew up a gangbanger, did drugs, committed robberies and such, and did hard time in San Quentin. It probably helps his image that he’s involved in programs to combat substance abuse and keep youth out of prison.
He’s also the original ‘pants dropping’ guy and ‘third nipple rumor’ guy!
Yeah, well I once believed that “Timbaland” and Justin Timberlake were either (a) the same person, or (b) “Timbaland” was Justin Timberlake’s production company.
Now that I’ve bared my soul… get off my lawn!
