Timothy McVeigh is scheduled to be executed on May 16, 2001. Should a standard procedure be used or should the execution match the crime? Should he be stoned to death with rubble from the building he bombed by the families of people he killed? Should he be strapped to a bomb and wait for it to go off? Should he be placed before a firing squad that is armed with only blanks for several attempts before finally shooting him?
Does Timothy McVeigh deserve any kindness or consideration for his execution or does he deserve to be treated just as badly as the people he killed?
Since I am not against the DP in principle, and Tim McVeigh was convicted of murdering a whole bunch of people, he would make a good candidate for taking his own medicine. I think the DP would serve as a much better deterant if the method of execution was tied to the method used by the murderer.
Instead of euthanizing him (like will be done in real life, lethal injection), my proposal would be to give him a 1 quart ammonium nitrate/fuel oil enema, followed by a REALLY long fuse out the exit. I think this would give him long enough to appreciate the errors of his ways and to make peace with his maker.
I think a nice big injection of sulphuric acid via cathader would be good. It would be slow and messy, but too bad, he murdered innocent people, men women and children. If you’re going to have a state sanctioned execution, why not make it fitting for the crime?
Definitely some kind of punishment that, “fits the crime.” Like being stoned to death or trapped under some ruble only to die days later from internal injuries. At least he would have a chance to brace for what’s coming, that’s more than we can say for his many innocent victims. We have that thing in the Constitution that prevents “cruel and unusaul” punishment, so it won’t happen. I’m thankful for that anyway, it might keep people like McVeigh from getting what they deserve, but it also keeps some dictator from getting out of hand and having the US go through some ind of Reign of Terror era.
In stages.
First, get him to understand (and feel remorse for) all of the misery he generated.
Second, let him stew in it for three hundred years, or until his body stops operating, whichever comes first.
Force 'im to listen to Britney Spears. I guaran-damn-tee, you’ll see crime drop 75% immediately.
Gosh darn that pesky old Constitution.
- then crack a few history books and check out what company you’re in.
While one might respect people who argue for DP as a tolerated necessity - I disagree completely, but there are reasonable arguments for it - death by torture has been shunned by every single civilized society on Earth for several hundred years. Because it’s evil.
I do so hope I’ve just been whooshed…

He should be hanged in the precise manner, at the exact place, and at the exact time as was given to the conspirators in the murder of Abraham Lincoln.
The only difference is that he should be compelled to hear the names and ages of his victims before the floor drops.
IIRC, the facility where they were hanged, Ft. McNair in Washington is still Federal property and its quite possible that the military units that witnessed Booth’s cohorts execution are also extant.
With luck, his family will (as did the Booths) bury his body secretly lest it become a gathering ground for traitors.
Timothy McVeigh should be executed by the manner prescribed by law. No more, no less. While in terms of absolute justice some of the methods mentioned here may be more appropriate, in the end, I can only support whatever method is demanded by law. The sign of a lawful country is one that abides by the law even with those that are lawless. To do otherwise is to make ourselves no better than those anarchists and lawless ones we are trying to defeat.
If this is a “what-should-be-done-to-McVeigh-if-I-were-in-charge” thread, then it’s better suited for IMHO, not GD.

Make him Janet Reno’s household servant.
