Oh, he certainly knows what he’s doing, as a lawyer and an investigator and a prosecutor. I’m a little less convinced, due to less information, about him as a citizen and statesman and historian. Does he have a good enough idea of the importance of what he does to the nation and the Constitution and to history, or is he perhaps too focused on getting all the ducks lined up before he shoots, as he would have done in his previous roles? He may be fine that way, but I’d like to be more confident.
Getting all his ducks lined up before he shoots is even more important in this role than in any of his previous roles. This is no time for cutting corners or showing your hand ahead of time.
That there is exactly why I asked the question cos I think this is the tactic Trump is using too. If one returns to what he did to the Banks during his Casino financing Escapade, he essentially borrowed so much and continued to borrow to the point where the Banks could not afford to flatten him without going down with him.
He may be piling up so much illegal stuff that by the time Mueller sorts through all of them, he’s completed his 4 years and done him overhauling the justice system to oversee him.
Boy howdy, QFT.
I’ll go out on a limb and say I still believe we’ll start to see some action around the end of March/first part of April.
And I’ve read/heard from a variety of sources that Mueller loves the element of surprise.
No. Things can proceed along simultaneous tracks, as is demonstrated by the Manafort/Gates/Papadopoulos prosecutions/plea arrangements. You’ll see some prosecutions happening as others continue to be investigated.
To be fair it hadn’t actually happened yet when he started looking.
Collusion in this case would be a crime as it would be tantamount to accepting a campaign contribution from a foreign government. That violates campaign finance laws. The contribution does not have to be monetary as long as it is something of value and “dirt” on your opponent would certainly qualify.
You come at the king, you best not miss.
(post shortened)
Hahahaha!
Back to the OP, criminal investigations take time and, as ETF says, he’d better not miss.
That’s right, but Mueller still doesn’t need to line up *all *the ducks first, just enough of the biggest ones. Every extra day he takes is another day we have a (possible) traitorous crook in charge of the government.
Nope, strongly disagree. He needs to line up all the ducks, make whatever case he is proposing rock solid and undeniable. You don’t leave loose ends to unravel the case when it’s something this important.
Every day he takes is worth it for the long term resolution of the case and avoiding a Constitutional crisis.
He’s a Republican, they walk in lockstep. He’s the perfect “Bad Cop” to do this investigation because nobody can say the Republicans are turning a blind eye to President Trump’s skullduggery, or the Democratic Party’s witch hunts. He can be all, “tut-tut!” and “Hmmm, VERY interesting.” and “Oh, this is an absolute hotbed of incrimination!” and so forth. He can pull violently at threads as they come up, meander down rabbit holes, and burn the occasional extra character in a show of Doing Something. Meanwhile, the actual Thing is never done. He’s a balm for the Democrats who can’t get their shit together enough to compete with the Republicans, and he poses no real threat to the Republican Party. Perfect master of ceremonies for this (sur)reality show.
I doubt Mueller would have left his lucrative private practice to make his relative chump change government salary back just so he could preside over a run-out-the-clock whitewash for a president he doesn’t know or care about.
If Comey had been what you describe, he would have happily taken whatever loyalty oath Trump required, as most Republicans seem to have each morning before they defend the indefensible for the glory of the Party. Mueller seems to be in the same vein. That Mueller was asked by Obama to serve an extra two years past the statutory 10 year term as FBI director would indicate that he isn’t the typical partisan hack that so many Congressional Republicans have shown themselves to be.
You have terrible timing.
Internet Research Agency Indictment
(Thanks to N9IWP for providing the link so I didn’t have to hunt for it.)
Extras for the fire. Little fish. “There is no allegation in this indictment that any American had any knowledge.” President Trump remains the unsullied lamb who benefitted, through no fault of his own.
Uh huh. And you, of course, have evidence for your conspiracy theory.
Of course not! If I had evidence it’d hardly be a conspiracy theory now would it? I’m not willing to endorse my point in my weekly underground newsletter–it’s born more of cynicism than belief anyway. But it’s another Thing Mueller’s uncovered that places blame for wrongdoing someplace other than the person who benefitted the most from it. It’s another rabbit hole with some more signs of action, that comes no closer to answering the question that matters: Was Donald Trump involved in Russia’s efforts to skew election data in Mr. Trump’s favor?
No allegation in this indictment. This won’t be the last indictment.
Your unsullied lamb won’t remain unsullied long if it turns out that he tried to obstruct this investigation in any shape or form. Obstruction is still a crime even if you’re innocent of the crime being alleged. Don’t put it past our stable genius to obstruct an investigation of crimes that he doesn’t think actually happened.
I shamelessly stole this for use elsewhere. Please forgive.
