I’d like to think everyone in my generation at least has seen Goonies and Gremlins, but it seems I meet someone new everyday who hasn’t. Ghostbusters is another movie that I feel everyone should see.
But I think I would have to agree with those who’ve said The Wizard of Oz. It’s one of those movies that a part of virtually everybody’s childhood and something they want to share with their children, so that gets my vote.
Could be any James Bond film, constantly showing all around the world, dubbed into who knows how many languages.
Or…
The Exorcist
The Wizard of Oz.
Rambo / Predator (both massive in SE Asia)
But, according to This site“Jesus” has been translated into more than 700 languages, and has been viewed by over 4 billion people from all around the world, possibly making it the most watched film in the world.
IMHO it has to be GWTW.
Living in Europe, even grandmothers had seen that film when they were younger and so had their children and grandchildren.
While Beetlejuice certainly rode the first wave of video schlock rentals, I doubt more people in Luxembourg have seen any of the above mentioned films more than GWTW.
Plus, GWTW was guite a TV event whenever it would be broadcast.
Oddly enough, the vast majority had never even heard of Wizard of Oz. That must be an American classic, much like Sissy is a German classic (and no - the film has nothing to do with boys who can’t play soccer.)
Actually, I did read elsewhere that the Jesus movie is the most watched movie of al time. By the way, suggesting that different religions would not watch that movie is a bit rude.
