What movie might this scene be from?

I’m guessing a fairly recent action-thriller (it had that sort of look about it); it’s a heist scene where quite a few vehicles are used to blockade a money-van on a bridge, including a large semi-trailer which ends up blocking the road behind the moneyvan. No idea who’s in it or what preceded or followed

It sounds like it could be The Italian Job. The Italian Job (2003) - IMDb

I have no idea, but when I first read your post I must have conflated the above sentence with your username and read, :…used to blockade a monkey-van…"

  1. Steal Monkeys
  2. ???
  3. Profit

It would cost more to steal the monkeys than one would get from selling them. That’s all right though. We’ll make it up from volume.

Who said anything about selling them? Do you think rocket cars navigate themselves?

I thought it might be that, but I recently saw it and it’s not.

As to the OP

The Usual Suspects has a scene like that.

It’s been a while, but the scene I remember from The Usual Suspects is with a police car rather than a, ahem, MONEY van. link(IMDB R rated so you need to register) Also, it’s not on a bridge.

I may be forgetting a scene, but that one involves vans and not a semi-trailer.

The OP sounds a lot like the opening heist of Heat, except (IIRC) it was near a freeway overpass and not on a bridge, and involved a semi ramming into the armored car instead of merely trapping it.

That’s what I was thinking too. It’s a great big tow truck, not a semi, doing the ramming. Couldn’t find a clip on YouTube but did find an earlier, and very similar scene, from another Michael Mann movie called “LA Takedown” (they use a garbage truck rather than a tow truck).

If there was a lot of shooting and Geena Davis, it coulda been The Long Kiss Goodnight.

This trailer shows a brief glimpse of the scene at around 1:33. It’s very brief, but I think you would recognize the vehicles if it was the scene.

It’s not surprising that there should be a similar scene. Heat was essentially just a rewrite of L.A. Takedown.

There was a similar scene in Patriot Games, but they were freeing IRA prisoners from police custody, not stealing money.

I’m pretty sure there was a scene like that in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I think the van was filled with Turkish Delight though.

I was watching a flick last night called, “The Stallion, the Whip, and the Wardrobe Malfunction” and there was a scene involving a heist on a bridge, but that wasn’t a semi-trailer blocking the rear escape.

I saw that too! The scene with Janet Jackson was particularly memorable.

Argh, I’ve seen this movie. I’m pretty sure that all the guesses here are too old, because whatever it is came out just within the last year or two. Was it something with Sean Bean in it?

Sean Bean was in Patriot Games, which I mentioned earlier, but it’s not that recent a movie.
