I liked all the movies you mentioned, especially Syriana. I haven’t seen the Mission Impossible movie.
I’m sure it’s way too late, but of those, I’d recommend Charlie Wilson’s War. I saw this movie 4 times in the theater. It’s highly enjoyable, especially for Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character. Besides being an interesting, little-known and timely story about a serious subject, it’s funny as hell. Just wonderful.
I’d rank them in this order:
Charlie Wilson’s War In the Valley of Elah (good acting, but a serious downer, if that’s what you want) The Great Debaters (uplifting and, to me, fascinating story) August Rush (uplifting and enjoyable, roll-your-eyes coincidences, but good music) Astronaut Farmer (mild fun, but mainly worth seeing for Billy Bob Thornton) 27 Dresses (mild fun, but definitely a trifle, worthwhile only to oogle at Katherine Heigl) Across the Universe (my favorite of the bunch, but the one I’d least recommend just because I’m tired of people saying what a piece of shit it is and I don’t need to come back to this thread and hear it from you too. Oh god I love this movie!)
**
Mad Money** (I didn’t see this because it looked terrible, even though I love Diane Keaton)
My favorite new(ish)-on-DVD movie is There Will Be Blood, but I don’t know how it would come across on the small screen.
I really do think you’d like Charlie Wilson’s War though.
Not at all. I had some TV to catch up on and you, Equipoise, are the winner! I was looking for something that would get sent up twice. No guarantees I’ll like the flick, but hell, I’ve got nothing better to do tonight and that was the point.
**kiss kiss bang bang ** is a movie i saw on a casual recommendation and now i recommend it to people who are just looking for any movie to watch. funny as hell.
edit: oh i guess i was too late–but if anyone else looking for a movie reads this thread, WATCH KKBB and try not to have any preconceptions, just enjoy it.
