I absolutely love this idea. We need this so badly.
He did remake Lysistrata a few years ago as Chi-Raq which was interesting. I am not sure how Gone With The Wind would work if it received the same treatment.

Lol…I’ll check back in 100 years.
I really, really enjoyed the original “The Day the Earth Stood Still” but I would love to see an update (eg give it to Kathryn Bigelow) made as closely as possible to the original without seeming anachronistic, with present-day actors very analogous to the originals.
And I would love to see AC Clarke’s “Childhood’s End” redone so that it’s much closer to the book than the SyFi miniseries. There are very powerful scenes from the book that were deleted from the miniseries that resulted in some internal inconsistencies and buggered up timelines that didn’t need to be there.

Looked Rat Race up on IMDb . With the exception of John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson and one or two others, the cast looks weak.
Weak? It’s got a bunch of Oscar winners, and, let’s see, Whoopi Goldberg who should’ve bought a squirrel from a crazy Kathy Bates, Cuba Gooding Jr. going apeshit as he says “Va-giiiiiina!” and hijacking a bus of Lucy impersonators, a reunited Breckin Meyer and Amy Smart catching Dean Cain cheating on her, Jon Lovitz and Kathy Najimy as parents stealing Hitler’s staff car (from the Barbie Museum), Wayne Knight driving Rowan Atkinson and a human heart… oh, just go watch it.
It’s a Madx4 World was the first movie my dad ever took me to. Rat Race is so much more fun.

I guess I should reconsider. You are certainly describing a movie that should have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
And the winner of the Academy Award for “Stupid Fun Film” is…

There was a critically-panned remake with Keanu Reeves in 2008, as it happens.

True enough but I avoided it. This may be narrow-minded but Keanu Reeves was a turn-off for me. He just strikes me as too “cool” for the role that was originally quite dignified.
You can also just not give a shit about logistics, such as the film The Philadelphia Experiment 2 where a NATO F-117 stealth fighter equipped with nuclear bombs disappears while part of a teleportation experiment over Germany and accidentally goes back in time to 1943 where it proceeds to be captured by the Nazis and used to nuke several East Coast American cities to force them into surrender. How a Stealth Fighter is able to cross the Atlantic without mid-air refueling is never explained.
Fantastic Voyage, where a team of doctors and a submarine are smallified and used to cure a patient. It needs to be remade with modern special effects.
I’ve suggested this one in the past. The effects were pretty good or the time, but it walwys bothered me that the red blood cells looked more like balloons than like those sorta lifesaver-shaped depressed-center discs.
The early Peter Jackson film Bad Taste (his early stuff is awesomely schlocky low-budget horror)
No one should touch Brain Dead (aka Dead/Alive) as the super low budget over-the-top practical horror effects are what make it. But Bad Taste is basically a sci-fi action film, which even with Peter Jackson at the helm really is hard to pull of with a budget of like $2.43. He could do a really good job with $243M I recon.
The cartoon spy parody Archer did a pretty funny take on Fantastic Voyage a few years ago.
^ I didn’t see that ending coming! OMG!
How do your feel about Meet the Feebles?
Rick and Morty also did a FV thing. Futurama as well.
The Simpsons did it in a Halloween Special.
Highlander was a cool, if campy, idea. I would like to see it remade with a modern movie budget and special effects team.
Of Mice and Men. I know it would be sort of arthouse/experimental, but I would like to see the story done exactly how Steinbeck wrote it. No added dialog or scenes that aren’t in the book. Everything the way he describes it. I’ll produce it once I hit the big one.
