What movies have you actually walked out of?

We got lucky when either the power went out or the projector broke (I can’t remember which) during Stargate. I don’t even remember what was so bad about it, 20 years later. We left before they could get it rolling again.

Well my wife did not care for it because despite being an SF movie with a fun premise, the good guys only triumph because they win a SERIES of fistfights with the bad guys. I’ll bet there’s a trope for it, but really … duking it out is kind of a tired, cliche way to end a film in the first place, a series of duke-outs is not only cliched but tiresome, and there’s nothing really SF about a fistfight … might as well be watching a Western or a detective story.

I remembered after my previous post that I walked out on **The House Bunny **(don’t laugh – it’s good-natured) after the third projector breakdown. Not one I chose to walk out on though.

That’s an interesting take away. I don’t recall fish fights much. I liked the linguist, because I was a military linguist at the time, and I didn’t like the Goa’uld drag queen. Can’t remember why exactly but maybe it was, drag queen = evil. Or something.

That’s because it took place in a desert.

At that scene in Austin Powers 2 when Fat Bastard describes in graphic, disgusting detail how badly he needs to move his bowels (and then he doesn’t even go to the damn bathroom!)

If I had been alone, I would have turned off the tape.

That’s the one that made me wish I’d walked out. It’s dreadful. Nicolas Cage’s character is tired of life, so he goes to Las Vegas with a briefcase full of booze to drink until he dies. He meets a nice hooker to live with while he drinks until he dies.

Soon after Lifeforce was in theaters, I was on a canoe trip through a church camp and one of the counselors was telling me how he walked out on it. I kept thinking he was talking about Cocoon and couldn’t imagine why he would walk out on it until I figured it all out. Years later I finally saw Lifeforce; it was not a very good movie and I can understand not liking it, but Mathilda May naked. C’mon.

I should have walked out on Batman and Robin. My friends and I all knew how bad it was going in but the movie was late starting because of the projector so one of the ushers entertained us by singing Gilbert and Sullivan. I should have walked out on Batman and Robin.

Walked out of? The Exorcist is the only one I can think of. At the time, it was way too intense with all the devil stuff.

Anymore, there are many DVDs the DH brings home that I walk out of tho: anything with Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon and that whole middle-aged-trying-to-be-sexy thing is boring. Id rather watch a war movie!

I haven’t walked out of a movie before, but then again, I’ve never been a huge moviegoer, and I have a relatively large tolerance for stupid comedy. Plus, I always feel like I’m somehow leaving money on the table if I leave early- like maybe the movie will get better or something.

That said, I would have walked out of “Return to Oz”, except that somehow I’d got roped into seeing it with a couple of buddies and their younger sisters who wanted to see it. I was 12, and I think it was free (to me), so I went along and had no way to leave, and probably would have got in trouble for being ungrateful and making a scene.

Miserable movie, and I did actually end up falling asleep and snoring loudly, which amused my friends to no end, because they wanted to leave just as bad as I did, but never managed to fall asleep.

I’ve quit watching dozens of DVDs and cable movies though; I don’t have the same feeling that I’m leaving money on the table in that situation that I do when at the theater.

Another stinker: Man of Steel (Superman). How can a movie with Russell Crowe and Amy Adams be so bad? Like a cartoon! Not even a 5 year old would enjoy it imho since it jumps around so much.

The only movie I walked out of at the theater was an early 80s movie advertised as a Porky’s type skin flick but it only showed the young males gawking, not any of what was being gawked at.

I walked out of 3 Amigos. I had gotten into the movie with a free pass even and felt it wasn’t worth my time.

I never quite walked out on any because of lousy quality (I almost walked out on Batman & Robin before bile fascination kicked in, and dozed off before working up the energy to walk out of The Triplets of Belleville). I made two attempts to watch ThreeDee movies and walked out after about three minutes because I felt a headache coming on.

We’ve got some tough critics here! I walked out of My Stepmother is an Alien to go play some video games in the theater lobby. I don’t regret that decision.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned*** Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas***. I would have switched off the tape, except I had made it a class assignment for my EFL group.

The last Indiana Jones movie. I walked out as soon as the army of monkeys showed up to swing with La Beef. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Never have.

Yeah…not too many fish fights there. Go to Thailand for that.

I’ve never walked out of a movie. In fact, I’ve almost never not enjoyed a movie while watching it. I often find myself realizing a movie was hollow / repetitive / stupid / plot-holey soon after, but I’m almost always along for the ride at the time.

The only movies I generally hate are usually overly-broad comedies or overly moralistic dramas, both of which I know enough to steer clear of in theatres.
