I said this once before in a previous thread: Sunset Boulevard only with nudity. The original, great as it is, was forced by the standards of the era to minimize the fact that Bill Holden’s character was sexing Gloria Swanson’s character.
The modern remake should feature an aging female star as Miss Desmond. She should obviously be past the first flower of youth while still having a fap-worthy body…which we should get to see frequently in hot (softcore) sex scenes. There are many women in Hollywood whom I can see being great in the role.
Who to replace Bill Holden, though?

I agree with many already mentioned: Starship Troopers with powered armor and Heinlein’s philosophy. Sandkings if done very true to Martin’s wonderful short story. I, Robot done with Harlan Ellison’s script of Asimov’s story. War of the Worlds if true to Wells’s vision. And that’s just for starters.

Hollywood has crapified too many great works of SF already, though. I don’t see them getting out of the habit yet.

The Last Unicorn was once upon a time scheduled to be made starring Mia Farrow and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Molly and Schmendrick the Magician. It truly, truly broke my heart when the deal fell apart, I know the animated version is still much loved, but how hard could it be to get this thing made? There’s CGI, they could put a damn horn on a beautiful white Arabian horse. Can’t they let Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler sit it out for a year, if it’s because of money? Or is the fantasy market all tapped out?

Actually I’m glad it fell through. From what I saw, it wasn’t looking promising. And no, no ‘horses with a prosthetic horn’. The book explicitly states that a unicorn is no where near a horse and is closer to the body build of a deer. The unicorn in the book is completely insulted when that old monk calls her a mare, don’t you remember?

But yes, I do wish they’d do a live action version but only if they do it right.
