To ‘Drink the Kool Aid’ is to join “…the Collective and become part of the anti-Bush hivemind.”, as Gobear said. Or become a Raelian. Or the Moonies. Or any group whose membership simply defies logic. The group in question here is not merely the ‘anti-Bush’ crowd, it is the ‘We are carpet bombing innocent puppies because Buschco needs to feed fresh blood to Cheney’ crowd.
No wishes of suicide or bodily harm are intended towards Gobear. (Even though I bet KERRYCO [hah! take that, Left!] has him wearing orange robes, banging a tambourine, and selling flowers at the airport.)
It’s not so much your reasons for ‘detesting Bush’, which though I believe are wrong, do not in and of themselves have you going door to door and asking people if they have Kerry in their lives. (Huzzah!)
It’s stuff like this that raises an eyebrow:
Bombing Iraqis because they are Iraqis? Come on. That’s the ‘drama’ and logic-defying sentiment that I am talking about.
That was a facetious reference to the comments made by Bill O’Reilly as quoted in the OP who said [paraphrasing] that we can’t win hearts and minds but we can bomb the hell out of them.
I think Bill O. has seen the light, that was set at 911 degrees by Moore, and finally got the guts to declare that Bush is doing a terrible job at winning ‘hearts and minds’, of many in even the Republican Party, never mind those in Iraq. Now this is the real ‘No Spin Zone’ that he is advertising.
When the election of officials in Iraq hinges on who disses the US more stridently, he is more than right in this regard.
Need some more on this. Not contradicting, mind you, just interested. I noted someone writing last month that Ahmed Chalabi was bad-mouthing the US trying to put some distance between, in an effort for credibility. But I wasn’t aware that it had become common, or that Iraqis were “campaigning” in any meaningful way.
BILL O’REILLY says, “President Clinton was right abd President Bush is wrong on foreign policy.”
I believe that befpre he could bring himself to say those exact words, his head would actually explode.
And he’s really angry with the Iraqi people because they are fucking up being occupoed so bad it’s going to cost GWB the election. :smack: I’m quite sure Rush would feel that such a sin makes them worthy of being nuked.
So why aren’t the Iraqis our best friends right now? Don’t give me some lame-ass bullshit about how they’re ungrateful for all of the wonderful favors we did for them. There is a reason they’re still shooting at us. They see us as being every bit as bad as Saddam. Why do you suppose that is?
It depends on which Iraqis. The Kurds love us. Some of the Shiites think we are just fine…especially the ones who lived in fear under Saddam. Some of the more fundamental Shiites like Al Sadr types don’t like us…and most of the Sunnis that had power and influence under Saddam don’t want us looking too closely at them.
I suspect most Iraqis are happy to have running water and food to eat and not having their daughters kidnapped and raped. And before many of you start screaming “Abu Ghraib!” to try to equate Bush with Saddam, keep in mind the number and severity of the atrocities when comparing the two.
As for O’Reilly…I see him expouse moderate to rightward opinions based on the issues. He appears to me to be more of a pragmatist than anything else. He is not a Nazi-saluting racist or any of the other cliches that the left views the right with. The further left you are, the more likely you are to disagree with him…but try to be objective about the issue and the opinions before you generalize.
It was his attempt to fake liberalism so that he can refer to his impartiality.
Cries for censorship? fringe elements?
Since when does one person – Reeder – become a group effort to silence O’Reilly?
I fully agree with DtC that O’Reilly is showing signs of mental illness. He’s not just some mean SOB like Rush. If he keeps going at this rate, something’s gotta give. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fox either temporarily pulls his show while Bill takes a break or allows him to continue until he becomes the news with unpleasant consequences.
