What Not to Wear 2/1/11

I like that they’re doing contestants who DESPERATELY need makeovers. And tonight’s Bimbo of Bling… What a clueless, airheaded goofball. What was that thing she kept doing with her mouth?

My mother and I were both absolutely appalled at this woman. Does she not want people to take her seriously? Because I can’t imagine going through life like that.

Whenever they pulled an outfit of hers and she said “oh, that’s my ________ outfit!” my jaw just about dropped to the floor. She thinks every single holiday or party revolves around a theme? Is she for real? No, really…who does that?

And my mom wondered if she had a cleft palate, or something, but I didn’t see a scar, so I dunno.

I was also extremely put off by the woman whom Stacy and Clinton tried to dress this week on WNTW. Then I thought, “I think she’s mentally ill.” Or pretty far down some spectrum. Check out the symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder (from the DSM IV) and see what you think:
“A pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention
interaction with others is often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior
displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions
consistently uses physical appearance to draw attention to self
has a style of speech that is excessively impressionistic and lacking in detail
shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion
is suggestible, i.e., easily influenced by others or circumstances
considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are.”

I think Clinton nailed it when he said, “I feel like I just took a kid’s costumes away from her.” She really seemed to get to both Stacy and Clinton. She really does look like a cartoon character.

I don’t know what’s up with her face, either - I’m thinking maybe she has collagen injected in her upper lip that is just weirding it out. And maybe botox, too, because her upper lip doesn’t seem to move at all.

ETA: I’m DYING to see Denise with the hair and make-up re-do!

She “drew” her upper lip outside the lines. When she was made up properly, her mouth didn’t look as weird. I think the rest was learned. I imagine she has spent hours in front of a mirror holding her mouth certain ways to emphasize her cheekbones or make her mouth look pouty. When she genuinely grinned, she looked normal.

When they were finished with her, she was traffic-stopping gorgeous. It was disheartening that she truly didn’t seem to see how much better she looked when she wasn’t hiding behind her harajuku mask.

Amateur psychiatrist that I am, this makes a lot of sense to me.

As I listened to her at the end, I was thinking of the whole concept of body dismorphia, and wondered if there’s a component of that called “face dismorphia” going on. What she saw as fabulous and “her” was distorted and doll-like to us.

I also noticed the very distinct line of dark foundation along her jaw line, so her white throat contrasted starkly against the fake tan face. I hope Carmindy at least get across to her the idea of blending!

I was kind of disappointed with last night’s show. The lady was obviously beyond Stacy and Clinton’s power to help, so all that was left was the freak-show aspect (which I admit was entertaining, but not the real reason I watch the show).

Denise had the body and hair of a Playboy bunny, the face of Dr. Evil, and the makeup skills of Tammy Faye Bakker. I can’t see why everyone kept referring to her as “fun”, or what made them suspect there was anything “real and genuine” in there. She lost me when Clinton asked her if she knew people were looking at her, and she said, “Well…I know noooowww!” Blatant lie. And you know, if you want to look slutty, I think it’s okay. But don’t pretend you don’t know why you attract the “wrong” kind of guys. Hint: it’s not because you’re Super Cute.

Or getting a quality, professional spray tan if you want to be darker - foundation should match your actual skin tone and be used to even out the color, not to make you look more tan!

She reminded me a little of the character in Best in Show played by Jennifer Coolidge, especially the pouty mouth thing and her to-the-max dumb-blond manner. Of course, Jennifer’s character was much more tastefully dressed and made up.

I watched the first third of the show and wanted nothing more that to see how she turned out, but my eyelids closed of their own volition and I’ll have to scour the web to view the rest. She looked good after everyone was done, huh? Will she keep the new look?

She looked great- still Playboy bunny material, but a lot less slutty. She did not keep the total look. Went back to too much eye makeup, stringy, straw-like hair, and some bling (though not as much as she came in with). If you go to the TLC website and then to WNTW forum there are a LOT of posts about her.

I wondered about that, too - she obviously isn’t coming from the same place as most of us.

When Carmindy had all her make-up off, I said to my husband, “THIS is naked for her - she can wear tiny tops with her boobs hanging out and skirts up to her hooha, but THIS is exposed for her.”
