What of this kidnapping couple hadn't been extradited?

Good question

Of? Maybe they left parts of the kidnappers behind?
OK that sounds bad too.

Seems they kidnapped the OP while they were at it.

I have no idea what case the OP is talking about, but this reminds me of a horrendously silly case that took place, locally, about three years ago.

It seems that this single mother was having some mental problems, and decided to check herself into a mental institution. She ended up leaving her child with a really close friend, it might have even been her sister. So the mother goes into the hospital, spends about two months there, and then checks herself out.

She goes to pick up her child at the friend/sister’s house, only to find out that this guardian had given the child to a lawyer couple who wanted to adopt the child. This married couple, they were both lawyers, had the best friend of another attorney who seriously greased the legal wheels for them. This adoption, including cutting the biological mother’s rights, happened at lightning speed. The biological mother only learned about this after the fact.

I know. I know. This kind of thing just can’t happen. Well, it did, right here in Pittsburgh.

When the jig was up, it took a court order and the enforcement of state troopers to keep the couple from taking the child to Canada on a “vacation”. After months of legal wrangling, the biological mother finally got full custody back. When the Child Services went to get the child, the false father had called the media to show up and take pictures of the crying child being ripped from the adoptive parents’ arms. Nobody had any sympathy for these two, and the stunt fell flat.

Any one else on this board from Pittsburgh can back me up on this story. I didn’t hear the aftermath, whether the two lawyers were punished in any way, or the friend attorney.

Damn, where did the rest of my OP go?

Here’s one version of the story.

City policy didn’t allow for extradition, so the money was raised privately.

My question is, had they not been extradited, what would have happened to the child, illegally in the custody of the mother? Would the child have been returned to the biological father, or left in the hands of the fleeing couple?

According to the linked article: the child was returned to her bio/custodial father on the 17th. The cost for the extradition (travel costs) was only to bring back the noncustodial parents (mother and her new husband) to Shannon Hills for prosecution.

If the extradition costs had not been paid then they probably would have been released. The daughter would be returned no matter what.
