Mary and marry are the same. Merry is definitely different. My tongue goes to a different spot in my mouth. Mary, the tongue is low on the initial vowel. Merry, the tongue is higher on the initial vowel.
Marie is MAR-ee.

Sorry, I don’t know why I’m sounding surprised here. Accents are different, that’s what makes them accents. I guess it’s just strange how different some pronunciations are.

That’s how I’ve always heard it, and it’s my middle name and so I’ve had reason to say it quite often.
It’s pronounced that way and almost the same as marry is pronounced here. I think the second pronunication is more common in Northern Ireland though.
Wow, that’s just so completely wrong. Microsoft largely missed the boat on the early Internet. Fortunately for them they had enough money to buy boats and force them back to harbor, including the already well-established Hotmail and before that Spyglass (which they rebranded as Internet Explorer).
I remember an early HTML editor called Hotmetal, and I think their logo actually rendered it as HoTMetaL. I’m not sure if they were encouraging people to pronounce HTML as “hot metal”, but I knew a couple who did.

In the United States, the pronunciation of Pakistan seems split between “pack-UH-stan” and “pock-EE-stahn”. I’ve heard President Obama use the “UH-stan” pronunciation for Afghanistan, but the “EE-stahn” for Pakistan, in the same sentence.
The name Laura was normally pronounced “LOR-uh”, but Long Islanders I met with the name insisted it be pronounced “LAAR-uh”.
Yeah my Pakistani acquaintances say “Pawkistan” or “Pockistan” but if i say that i feel like it’s a silly affectation on my part.
