What percentage of people cheat on MW2?

Yeah, shitty example, but on Karachi, where someone will sit in the market, behind a box, way in the corner, and camp that area, that’s a pain in the ass. Modern Warfare 2 is a campfest, and it’s not very sniper friendly, either.

This brings forth an interesting question: is “camping” dependent on the weapon? Obviously, sniper rifles are best used from an area of high elevation and a good vantage point. If you were in the same area with an assault rifle, are you camping? If you’re playing on Estate and up in the top of B building with a sniper rifle, but covering lots of area, are you camping?

There’s definitely console tampering going on. If you peruse the Account Suspensions and Console Bans forum over at Xbox.com, you’ll note that just about all of the bans, suspensions, and gamerscore resets have MW2 as one of the most recent games played, sometimes the only game played. Often they even mention it specifically in their “why was I banned” post, for example:

Suuuuure you did, kid.

Probably my favorite ban story.

Ultimately this is why I prefer Sabotage, Capture the Flag, or whatever other modes that have a goal beyond just “kill everyone” or even “kill the other team”–at that point, camping is a legit tactical choice and no one should complain about it, because if you camp all game you never score any points.

Granted, that never stopped anyone from griping at me for “camping” in TFC. I’m playing an engineer, asshole, me and my sentry gun are SUPPOSED to be in a fixed location.

Camping pisses people off because it’s generally useless and really slows down the game. Just like playing engineer.

Frustrated scout?

In all seriousness, I’ll open a new thread for this hijack.

I disagree with MW2 being a campfest. I can only think of one or two areas in MW2 that can be camped lock-solid (Fuel is one, where you can hide literally inside one of the rocks). Even in Karachi’s market area, you can approach that spot from another angle, and, if you do, the camper is a dead duck. And it’s all but impossible to camp enemy spawn points.

But I will agree with sniping being near impossible in MW2. A shame, because it’s fun to try, but there are very few maps with sightlines long enough to make it worthwhile to use a sniper rifle long enough to unlock the useful attachments. I know a guy who ended up using the Steady Aim perk to use a sniper rifle as the world’s worst assault rifle until he could rack up enough kills to unlock the attachments.

See, but you can. Go in with a cogent plan and a group of people that understand the plan and you certainly can span trap people pretty easily. You’re telling me that, on Afghan, you’ve never been on the good site of an epic victory with a chopper gunner shooting the red boxes as they pop up on one side because you have the other two spawn points locked down? On highrise, if you don’t go too far past middle, they’ll keep respawning right in front of you. On Estate, if you’ve got the house and B building, they’re going to spawn at C. Every map is like this. Think about every single game of Territories you’ve ever played in MW2. You get two territories, things are going great until that one jerk starts working on the third one. Now they’re spawning everywhere and all you have left is that one spawn the jerk went after.

The rock glitch you pointed out was just another example of why Infinity Ward is a horrible developer. Lastly, yea, we’re both playing Modern Warfare 2, but we’re not playing the same game.

Also, tools like Scavenger and Claymores enable more camping as well.

What’s your definition of cheating?

I play on a big HDTV, I can see tiny people far away because the screen is so large. I also have Turtle Beaches, because I kept breaking the cheaper wired headsets and these looked sturdier than any microsoft ones, which means I can soundwhore (listen very closely for footsteps/bullets/etc) without waking the neighborhood. I also play with a group of friends who are at least as good as I am, and it’s not uncommon for one of us to go 100+ on rust, if the others help to spawn camp while one of us has a chopper gunner/AC130 (Tip: To camp a spawn on rust, Hardcore HQ, 1 person on top of the rig, one person on the level below, on person on the pipe, one person at the base of the pipe and one person by the truck – they’ll all spawn by those tall silo thingies).

It’s a matter of tactics, and group teamwork. On Highrise, I’ll get up top on the white building, camp with one man army, danger close and ninja (tac insertion) as well as a cold blooded/sniper/1man army and if I can’t kill someone or get a shot at them with an explosive, I’ll warn my teammates they’re coming around the corner, and if all you saw was the killcam, you’d think he was wallhacking.
Now, that being said, JTag’d xboxes do not mean people are cheating. Most people who have jtags do not have aimbots/autoaims/wallhacks/etc. There are some who do. What you’ll find more often are modded controllers, or Modified turbo boost controllers. These allow people to fire semiauto firearms faster than should be possible.

I actually have one, although I don’t use it, it was a home-made (no chip, just solder) mod and I shoot the FAL faster than it does.

Of all of that, the only “cheating” is the modded controller, and I never use it because it’s unreliable, unsportsmanlike and makes the game no fun.

Now, there’s also stat padding, where a group will get into a lobby to get titles/emblems. That’s a specific type of cheating, stat padding.

It’s possible to get the spinning skull emblem, you just have to be 10th prestige, and complete all the prestige challenges, almost everyone with it has boosted (stat-padded) for it, or has gotten into a challenge lobby. A challenge lobby gives you every title/emblem, usually with some strings attached (you can’t turn off your xbox, I think).

Not as bad as One Man Army. I really want to smack the moron who came up with that perk…

I was unknowingly invited into a server like that by a friend. He tells me to hit CTRL N or something like that. Next thing I know every damn title and emblem is unlocked. I was not too happy about it. I have never cheated with a wall hack or a aimbot and I wanted to earn all the titles and emblems.

Is there any way on the PC to reset everything and start from the beginning?

Of trivial relevance, one of the last times I played America’s Army (team-based FPS based - at the time, I don’t know what they’re doing now - on the Unreal Tournament engine) I was on the defense team and an assault team member with the name of |||||||||||||||||||| (yes, twenty hash marks) had an obvious aimbot going, to the point where he simply ran to the hill in the center of the map and picked off the defenders immediately. His name, for some reason he was obviously exploiting, was not recognizable to the votekick procedure, else he’d’ve been bounced by the other players. I didn’t even understand what satisfaction he was getting out of it, since he did that same thing every time - run to the hill, eliminate the defenders within two seconds, round over.

I told my fellow defenders I’d had enough. Switched to the assault team and by sheer luck got the sniper rifle. When score-hash started his usual sprint to the center hill, I casually put one in the back of his skull, saw him fall. Got kicked from the game automatically for teamkilling, but it was totally worth it.

not as far as I know. FYI - I one man army tube, very effectively. :>

The grenade launcher and One Man Army are perfect examples of how Infinity Ward botched that game up.
