We’re a sociable group. Instead of just trying to list places we’ve been at all by ourselves, let’s list the places where the most of us have been (even if it was at different times). But it has to be a fairly specific landmark - something more specific than a town or city. You can either post to add your name to the list of people who’ve been to a landmark already mentioned or to add a new landmark, preferably one you’ve been to. Let’s see if we can find the spot that’s been visited by more dopers than any other.
1 - The lobby at Grand Central Station in New York City
2 - The observation deck at Niagara Falls
3 - Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World in Florida
Niagara Falls
Washington DC mall (Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, etc.)
Bourbon Street (New Orleans)
Ryman Auditorium (Grand Ole Opry)
Mammoth Cave KY
Smoky Mountains (Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cherokee NC)
Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga (see 7 states!)
I’ve been to the lobby at Grand Central Station, the observation deck at Niagra Falls, Times Square, and Broadway.
And I’ve been to the MAS*H exhibit at the Smithsonian, and the Bunker Hill monument in Boston.
Never been to the Empire State Building or Cinderella’s Castle.
Does it count if you have seen the Sydney Opera House? Or do you actually have to go inside? I haven’t been inside it, but I was outside looking at it from nearby. (Wonderful place, Sydney.)
Niagara Falls observation deck
Disney World Cinderella’s Castle
Empire State Building
Broadway/Times Square
Washington, D.C. mall (specifically Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials)
Smithsonian (not the MASH* exhibit specifically, but a 1977 visit to the museum in which it was held a few decades later)
Although many people don’t count airport stopovers towards their list of states/countries visited, I’d guess many of us join me in having been to the terminals of (most if not all) the following:
LaGuardia (New York)
O’Hare (Chicago)
Philadelphia International
Orlando International
Lambert-St. Louis
Reagan National (Washington, D.C.)
Montreal Dorval
How about the Post House in Breezewood, Pennsylvania? If you’ve ever ridden a Greyhound bus through the Keystone State, you’ve stopped there for a “meal” or two…
Let’s define a location as some place small enough that if you arranged to meet a person you knew there you would be confident the two of you would be able to find each other. So if you said “let’s meet at the Lincoln Memorial” it would work. But trying to find each other in the entire Washington Mall probably wouldn’t.
And I’ve been to the following: the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Bourbon Street, EPCOT, the Astrodome, LaGuardia, Philadelphia International, Orlando International, Montreal Dorval, and Gettysburg.
Hm. The only places I’ve been that have ben mentioned already are the Grand Canyon and Xel Ha (although neither of them fit Little Nemo’s conditions. And I don’t really think that many of y’all have been to Xel Ha anyway.). Oh, and some of the airports.
I nominate:
Trafalgar Square
the Eiffel Tower
Old Faithful
the San Diego Zoo
I’d suspect that aside from airports (I’d vote Atlanta) more of us have been to the Washington Mall than anywhere else. Or maybe the Golden Gate Bridge.
