A speculation: the thread may be tending toward facetious replies because the people who use this site tend to be fairly well-informed (how’s that for self-serving? …but bear with me…) We are aware that poll results can be interesting, but that any poll on an Internet forum is going to be wildly unreliable because it can’t employ random sampling.
A self-selected group of people answer Internet polls, and that leads to inevitably-biased results. The results may be entertaining to read, but can’t really answer any “need.” Well, other than the need for entertainment.
So, possessed as we are of this knowledge, we make puns ‘n’ such.
