What pop songs mention a superhero?

Gak. Thank you. Now I’ve got Rick Springfield’s “I Am Your Superman” running through my head. Whimper.

evil flashbacks to the flodsister’s RS craze mercifully deleted

Jam On It by Newcleus has another Superman reference.

“Well Superman looked up at me. He said you rock so naturally. I said now that you’ve learned to deal. Let me tell you why I’m so for real.”

How about Joe Satriani’s Surfing With The Alien ? Even had the Silver Surfer on the album cover.

The only song I know of that mentions superheroes (though not one in particular)is “Cartoon Heroes” by Aqua(they of the Barbie song fame).

We are what we’re supposed to be
Illusions of your fantasy
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do…

Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang

“You can be my boyfriend, you surely can
Just let me quit my boyfriend called Superman”

Firewater’s got a song called, “So Long, Superman,” which is (sorta) about Christopher Reeve. It also mentions Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk on TV.

I’m not real familiar with the lyrics, but are we sure that’s a reference to the comic book character and not the Cuban, uh, stage “performer” of the same name?

The theme from “Greatest American Hero” was a big hit:

Believe it or not
I’m walking on air…

Also, R.E.M.'s “I Am Superman” was a cover tune. The original version was performed by The Clique.

Not a traditional super hero, but amusingly well-described in Frank Zappa’s “Billy The Mountain”— Studebaker Hoch.

Aw, how could anyone forget “Wonderboy” and “nastyman”?!

(Ok, so they were created by T-D, so what? They’re still superheros)

XTC, as their alter-egos The Dukes of Stratosphear, recorded “Brainiac’s Daughter,” which refers to the Fortress of Solitude, and, of course, Brainiac.

XTC’s “That’s Really Super, Supergirl” [previously mentioned] references Kryptonite, capes, X-ray vision, secret identities, missions, changing the weather and saving the universe.
