What Price Hollywood? (original Star is Born) on TCM Sunday at 10:00 p.m.

1932, starring Constance Bennett, and for my money way better than Janet or Judy or certainly Barbra. Pre-Code, and Connie is so hard-boiled you could roll her on the White House lawn.

Plus, the “Norman Maine” is played by Lowell Sherman, his best performance–he’s her director, not a washed-up actor husband. I won’t give anything away but his last scene is remarkable.

I absolutely agree, I LOVE this version, it’s a lot of fun. I love the kidnapped-for-dinner scene. (I cannot stand the Judy Garland version of A Star Is Born. At. All.) Every time TCM shows it, I try to watch, and I think Constance Bennett is just beautiful.

Of course she is: beauty is the birth right of *every *woman! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr0DbvZvBeM
