We had a thread on the old board where people were asked to pick their favorite L&O detective combo and their favorite ADA. For the former, I chose Briscoe & Green. I never cared for any of the ADAs.
This was for the franchise, which would include ones like Trial by Jury and True Crime (13 and 8 episodes)
I remember that one. My best friend and I watched in his basement. We were in high school. We were also very, very stoned.
The most comforting thing I could watch would be a rerun of Game 7 of the 2019 World Series.
I’m defining comfort shows as shows I like to fall asleep to:
Star Trek (all of them)
Cosmos (Sagan’s and NDT’s)
Brian Green’s docs
How the Universe works
Mysteries of the Bible (FTR I’m atheist)
Basically any doc where the narrator has that “voice” that puts you to sleep.
In no particular order:
Doctor Who (New and Classic)
The Odd Couple
The Three Stooges
Bugs Bunny & Friends
Star Trek (TOS)
The Carol Burnett Show
Barney Miller
The Electric Company
Sesame Street (Pre-Elmo)
Bob’s Burgers
The Untouchables
All in the Family
The Beverly Hillbillies
Bonanza (before Adam left)
Fawlty Towers
Monty Python
Everybody Loves Raymond
Roots
Soap
F Troop
Law & Order with Lenny
And others I haven’t thought of yet.
nevermind
The Great British Bake Off
Nova (the PBS show)
Secrets of the Dead (the PBS show)
The original Magnum, PI
All those old TV detective shows: Cannon, Simon and Simon, Mannix, Banacek, etc.
The Muppet Show
Nova is a good suggestion.
I would add Mysteries at the Museum with Don Wildman to my list.
Let’s go with a short list…
Doctor Who (old/new)
Star Trek (Any)
The Big Bang Theory
Downton Abbey
How the Universe Works
Beat Bobby Flay
Chopped
Dirty Jobs
Then for some fun…
Are you being Served.
Phineas and Ferb
Dangermouse
And a bunch of original Looney Toons.
Star Trek (TOS only)
Twilight Zone
Mythbusters
Chopped
Burn Notice
Leave It to Beaver
Seinfeld
Midsomer Murders (Original Barnaby only)
Forensic Files
Mission: Impossible
Dirty Jobs
How It’s Made
Excellent choice. I wish there was an official source for these.
Coming from two networks, I wonder if there ever will be. I’d settle for partial.
Another one for my list: WKRP. One of the reviewers on amazon says:
If (like me) you’re a big fan of this highly underrated sitcom, you probably remember Fox’s God-awful season 1 DVD release from a few years back, loaded w/music substitutions, voice overdubbing and (in some cases) use of syndication cuts rather than the original network versions. Thankfully, Shout Factory (well-known for going above and beyond to bring TV shows to DVD w/their original music fully intact, as was the case w/Freaks and Geeks) has really gone the extra mile, not only using the original network masters for all 88 episodes, but securing the rights to as much of the original music as possible (over 100 artists worth!).
I’d watch every postseason win of the 2019 Nationals.
Deep Space Nine, Avatar: The Last Airbender, How It’s Made.
Funny, I watch old basketball games on youtube.
British Bake Off and Downton Abby are very warm and fuzzy. My other go to is Glee
I watch a lot of the mentioned shows… but what the heck? no love for The Walton’s? I am currently recording 3 shows each weekday. I grew up in the are depicted in the show from age 7 to 12 though not quite as long ago as the shows timeline.
I wouldn’t either. That’s where Call The Midwife is after all.
I also want the complete Saturday Night Live…
Nearly every show I would have named has already been listed except Better Off Ted and Pushing Daisies, so let me add a few DVDs to the pile.
Antiques Roadshow. I can watch that for hours.
My personal channel features the following:
I Love Lucy
Friends
Seinfeld
Beverly Hillbillies
Sex and the City
America’s Test Kitchen/Cooks Country
Rockford Files and/or a rotation of those 1970s Sunday Night Mysteries (Columbo, McMillan & Wife, etc.)
Vintage cartoons (early 1940s – early 1960s)
This Old House/Ask This Old House
Another vote for Rockford. Especially if it’s an episode featuring Angel or Isaac Hayes.
