I’m pretty sure he was a brigadier general, but I wanted to be sure because I want to attribute a quote to him, and I’d hate to get his rank wrong.

Here is a photo of Ripper which definitely seems to show a single star on his left shoulder, making him a Brig. General. Hard to tell, though, because of the lighting.
