What relatively recent hits incorporated popular standards and/or were remakes?

I was just listening to Bow Wow Wow’s song “Giant Sized Baby Thing” which included the line “As I walk through the shadow of the valley of death…”

This makes me wonder what traditional songs have been remade by somewhat recent bands, and what songs simply took a few lines from such songs. Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Oh, and Metallica’s cover of “Whiskey in a Jar.”

This isn’t a case of taking a line from a popular song. Although Coolio did use this line in Gangsta’s Paradise (which itself samples from a Stevie Wonder song), the origin of this line is the Bible’s 23rd Psalm: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me.”

I wasn’t thinking of some rap song, I was (incorrectly?) thinking I heard it in a hymn in addition to the original context.

Bow Wow Wow? the eighties pop-punk-dance band?

Yup.

Taco’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”
