What role is Larry Hagman best known for?

The poll is just wrong.

I dream of Jeannie ran and syndication for years after the show was canceled. Exposure to a LOT more people than Dallas did for that very reason.

No, I think it is right.

Like I said I answered specifically for me as a person of a certain age who wasn’t interested in soaps like Dallas. But internationally Dallas is far more widely known and even in the U.S. Dallas certainly was a much bigger show as a first-run. Did IDoJ have a more pervasive reach in the U.S. in syndication? Probably - like stuff like Gilligan’s Island or The Brady Bunch it was inescapable for a particular demographic. But I do not think it is enough to overcome Dallas’ mass appeal, definitely not if you add in the international audience.

Yep. The Glass Bottle

OTOH wiki claims IDoJ did play in India both in the ‘90s and brought back for nostalgia in 2020.

I presume Dallas did too but if we are looking for worldwide numbers we’d really be most informed by what rebroadcast American crap tv Indians watched.

Looks like it was The Brass Bottle, 1964.

I recall it being forgetable outside of have Randall and Eden.

I’m going to use that line whenever I have the chance.

(Psst. Forgettable)

Derwood? You mean Darren?

Fascinating how memory is. And isn’t.

Hmm, in my head I always spelled that as “Durwood”. Wikipedia unimpeachably suggests both work.

Durwood - Wikipedia

Durward Kirby was the host of Candid Camera along with Allen Funt. The Kirwood Derby was a plot point on Rocky and Bullwinkle. Anyone wearing the Derby became the smartest person on earth.

The Pinewood Derby is something else again.

And not very comfortable to wear on your head.

[Endora]: Alright, whatever.

Perhaps the joke is on me. Was Derwood a name that Endora deliberately misused to display her disdain for Darren?

My memory of ancient childhood TV is not that good, but somehow I am getting a very soft vibe of familiarity for the idea of “Derwood plus Bewitched”.

However one spells Derwood / Durwood.

Exactly. Endora routinely butchered Darren’s name, to troll him (as well as show her disdain for him), and “Durwood” was the most common misnomer she used.

One of many examples, and this is from Durwood, I mean, Darrin, number 2: see at 50 seconds)

There’s a Bewitched wiki that lists all the names Darrin was called. I was going to link to it, but there were so many pop-up ads and videos that I became annoyed. Here, then, is that list:

  • Dagwood
  • Dah-Dah
  • Dare (by Charlie Harper)
  • Dar-Dar
  • Darian
  • Darius
  • Darryl
  • Darvy
  • Darwin
  • Darwood
  • David
  • Dennis
  • Derek
  • Desmond
  • Dexter
  • Dino
  • Dobbin
  • Donald
  • Dorian
  • Dulphin
  • Dumbo
  • Dum-Dum
  • Duncan
  • Durweed
  • Durwin
  • Durwood
  • Dustbin
  • Dustin
  • Tall, Dark and Nothing (by Serena)
  • Whatchamacallit
  • What’s-His-Name
  • Ding-Ding (S2 E14)

Darius, Darryl, Derek and Dino sound pretty cool. ISTR only the Durwoods, Durwin and Dum-dum’s.

I had heard during the run of re-runs that Agness Moorehead was an actress with quite a long career and a bit of fame. Otherwise, I only recall seeing the Twilight Zone she was in and at the credits"That’s Endora!" and she only has one line of dialog at the end yet plays it well.

I’m petty sure both Samantha and Jeannie had like evil dark haired twins and didn’t like either of them.

Watch “The Magnificent Ambersons” if you get a chance.

NITPICK: The correct spelling of Samantha’s husband’s name is “Darrin Stephens,” as was seen on his office door.
