Liked him as Major Nelson and loved him in the first incarnation of Dallas. I remember actually caring who shot J. R. By the way, I called it. Kristin did it.
Never much of a fan of Larry Hagman’s work, (both I Dream Of Jeanie and Dallas were before my time) but I have to admire a successful Hollywood actor who maintained a marriage for nearly 60 years.
Speaks to his character, and that of his wife as well…
I still remember this about him.
RIP Lawrence of Malibu
RIP Tony Nelson J.R. Ewing.
You were a villain extraordinaire.
Patrick Duffy (Bobby) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) were at his bedside according to the link.
I never watched Dallas, so I remember him as Major Nelson. RIP.
He was also very good, holding his own opposite Henry Fonda, as the Russian translator in Fail-Safe. May he rest in peace.
Hmmmm. I always thought it was intuitively obvious.
Another childhood memory in the can. I still like watching I Dream of Jeanie for historic shots of cars, aircraft and rockets. Of course I liked it for different reasons when it was first shown. Sadly I now look for the Pontiac convertibles, F104’s and early rocket launches.
Godspeed, Major Nelson.
How ironic. In the Dallas reboot it was Bobby who was ill and J.R. who was at his bedside. I watched the first season and enjoyed every moment he was on screen. I wonder if John Ross will become every bit as ruthless as his father was.
The guy had a great career-imagine…the only veterinary doctor in the whole US Air Force! Did the USAF have horses once?
No, but monkeys and chimps were being shot into space…
His mother, Mary Martin, was Peter Pan. They’ve now joined hands in flight.
J: Ooooooooh, I will shake my boobs for you, Master!
T: Ah-ha, not in front of Dr. Bellows, Jeannie!
It depends on the bottom line.
And there were guard dogs, and probably a cat or three for rodent control. And falcons are used for keeping runways clear of birds.

Only astronaut to fly the X-15, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo (Twice! And walked on the Moon!) and the Space Shuttle.
I remember him best from I Dream of Jeanie. He was always very good in any role he played.
R.I.P.
RIP, Major Nelson.
Odd, but BBC and other news services I’ve seen today have not even mentioned I Dream of Jeannie. My wife assures me it did play here in Thailand back in the day. She watched it here as a little girl. I’m another one who never watched Dallas, not a single episode, and will always remember him most as Major Nelson.
I just checked, and I see Bill Daily is still alive. 85 years old and living in Albuquerque. He was there when I lived there too, and I remember he would have these sporadic cooking shows on local TV.
