What’s Joe Biden’s policy on Climate change?

I’ve been trying to understand Biden’s policy outline for Climate change have not found much information online.

Will it be just the same as “ Green New Deal ( GND ) “ ? Green New Deal - Wikipedia

This should help:

Most candidates these days have websites, which make a great place to find these policies.

Thanks. So I see that the date for 0 greenhouse emissions has been moved to 2050 compared to the 2030 goal in the Green New Deal.

Any reason for the 2050 date or is that arbitrary ? Didn’t find it on the website

Perhaps one of the reasons is that a 2030 date for zero carbon emissions was insane and couldn’t possibly happen.

2050 just might be possible. That would give us time to use up the auto and truck fleets and replace them with electrics, build huge new solar and wind plants, decommission old plants, ease through the economic disruption to oil producing countries, etc.

If you seriously tried to end the use of fossil fuels by 2030 (as Kamala Harris does, for example), you’d wreck the global energy system, and the global economy with it. You’d destroy huge industries without being able to replace their jobs or their products. You’d probably cause wars in the Middle East, and face huge blowback from Russia and other petro states. Assuming you tried to make this a global thing, that is.

If you just try to do it in America, you’ll drive energy prices through the roof, trigger a massive recession, and destabilize the power grid. You would have to destroy millions of vehicles that still have plenty of useful life in them. And the collapse of American demand for fossil fuels would make them cheaper for everyone else, which would just move high energy industry and its carbon output elsewhere - probably somewhere with fewer environmental controls and less efficiency.

But long before then you’d probably get a political uprising that would throw the Democrats and their insane 10 year plan out of office. So it’s really good if they are moving their plan to 2050. At least that has an outside chance of suceeding or at least making major progress without collapsing the economy.

Biden has already dug a hole for himself in the midwest by promising to end fracking, and in other states by promising to ban offshore oil drilling. I can’t imagine North and South Dakota voting for the guy promising to undo all the economic gains they’ve made in the last 20 years. You’ll wind up with what happened in Canada, when Liberal ‘green’ initiatives caused the destruction of the liberal party in Western Canada.

The 2030 date comes from the original proposal from 2006, so it’s not that crazy to push it out to 2050, 14 years later.
