What scares you the most about Covid?

This was posted on April 1, by Vox. It is an excellent, graphic comparison of Flu & COVID-19. Watch it and weep.

I think the scariest part is how asymptomatic this appears to be. I think when we get the ability to mass test, quickly, we’re going to find a huge number of people who have it or had it and never knew. This would explain how it spreads so fast and how it seemily pops up out of nowhere.

You’ve forgotten where I live. Recall that around the time that Trump got elected or maybe way back in the Bush era I was offering asylum for you and the (at the time) two dogs here in Canada, but nix on the cats. This being Canada – and specifically Ontario – you cannot buy liquor at Costco here. So I actually visited three stores today: the liquor store, which had a short lineup and strictly limited in-store customer numbers, a grocery store, and a drugstore – all of which had social distancing floor markers but not huge crowds. I was surprised at the number of people now wearing masks. I could have got ibuprofen at the grocery store but I wanted to drop in to the drugstore to see if by some miracle they had hand sanitizer, or isopropyl alcohol, or maybe even surgical masks. They did not, but they did have an outstanding display of empty shelves in those critical places.

I may have unintentionally also brought home COVID-19, but I did make use of my precious hand sanitizer every time I got back in the car, before I even touched the steering wheel.

My apologies. I did forget. :frowning: Sorry. (One dog now and two cats.)

You can’t buy liquor at Costco here either or in grocery stores (except beer & wine), but Costco has its own liquor store right next door to the main emporium.

I have a friend who is a nurse in The Bronx and she has contracted the 'Rona. She has no appetite and has lost her sense of taste and smell. She is 30ish so I suspect/hope she will recover.

This makes a lot of sense, actually, when you consider the “global” response to COVID-19.

Weird, I had a dream last night that I was infected and went to the hospital and they told me there was a vaccine now and they tried to hold me down and inject me but in my dream I knew that it was not the vaccine and it was something else terrible.

My wife has immune issues and had the flu/pneumonia/shingles back in January. If she gets this virus, I’m not sure it turns out well.

What scares me is what happens when we return to “normal” yet without a vaccine. The numbers will be decreasing and it will make fewer headlines, but it will still be out there.

What else? Well, there’s the fact that even if I don’t die, there is a very good chance that this virus would curb stomp me. I’ve seen “survivors” on the local news, going home after being in the ICU for 2-3 weeks, and they don’t look good at all. We’re talking about guys my age (40s) who only a few weeks ago were breadwinners, busting ass and working 50-hour workweeks as middle managers, now barely able to speak while sitting in a wheelchair without getting winded. In some cases, their conditions are nothing more than having a few extra pounds, slightly elevated blood sugar, and slightly high BP. I’ve actually lost weight recently but elevated BP? Yeah, maybe.

I’ve thought about working exclusively online, but I could get it from family members. I can’t ask people to stop working and living life, and in the end, I will probably reach a point where I also say ‘Fuck it’ and get out more.
