Okay, I am particularly taken with the idea of having a rave. Just me and about 200 other people. The problem is, where should I start? I have an awesome sound system which consists of lots of speakers, a mixer, and a computer. The last is there to store all of the songs. It is much easier to download them and wash them through there. Back on topic- What music should I get? What preparations should I make? How should I advertise? Any ideas on having a great one? Any experienced ravers want to help good ol’ red? Thanks!
Bring a pair of clean socks. Someone is always barfing on your shoes at a rave.
I had a theme idea that I tried to get my sister to execute at Burning Man, but it didn’t happen: Apocalyspso. It would be a sort of Mad-Max-meets-Harry-Belafonte-and-Jacques-Cousteau thing with metal ducts and dolphins and horses of Death and burning mai tais. Musically you could do a lot of Einsturzende Neubauten and Perez Prado.
Best rave music ever. All the rage in Europe, but pretty obscure over here. It’s so good you don’t even have to preview it. Just play it.
Only problem is, all the girls want to rip their clothes off when they hear it.

First order a large supply of dust masks and white gloves (glo in the dark is best). Make sure the venue is completely unsuitable. Hand out glo-sticks and play the fastest most repetitive techno you can find. It also helps if you have someone inanely babbling over the music.
Finally circulate some e-tabs (caution: drugs are bad ) and simmer in own heat for 12 hours. Voila! One traditional style rave!

seeing as to how i’ve been to so many raves, and i love to dance, heres my suggestions.
techno, jungle, drum n’ base, make a good rave mix of beats.
lots of stuff that glows in the dark.
any materials with comfortable textures, textures are important, see down below…
large open area, low if any lighting at all. good bass on the speakers.
if you want it to be official, ecstasy. i do not condone drugs, but that is always at a rave. if you want to avoid the drugs, (which is extremely intelligent to consider) avoid alcohol especially since most people tend to dehydrate easily at these things. (mostly from the x). lots of passion fruit. always a plus to have passion fruit.

Rent “Party Girl” with Parker Posey. And “Go.” All your questions will be answered. Are you gonna hire a DJ or run the music yourself? If you’re gonna run it yourself, get yourself a backup person to make sure the logistics are running smoothly, drinks are being moved, anyone who becomes unconcious is not trampled, etc. If you are hiring a DJ, make sure s/he knows they are gonna have to bring thier own tables/mixer. And as far as advertising goes, do you know anyone in your area who is heavily into the rave scene? Getting ideas from them might be a good place to start.
Do not have it in your parent’s house. I think there was a Very Special Episode of Family Ties that dealt with this issue.
I would suggest inviting closer to 2000 people if you want to have a rave. Location is a crucial element. I don’t know if you’re planning on having this at your house, but I would recommend against that course of action (unless you like complete mayhem and destruction of your possessions. I would bring in about eight DJ’s who would provide their own equipment, that way you can have the individual at the door escort the most beautiful people to the back room where the real party is and where you just happen to be.
RECONSIDER or have a lawyer on retainer.
Well, I was planning on having it just fine and legal. We were goning to rent out a party hall. I live in a small-ish town, so 2000 would be quite impossible unless all of you want to join me! Nope, no massives yet. Anyone have some names of specific music groups/ songs? I was thinking about having a strong electronic beat. My friend would run the equipment, and I would help keep watch. We don’t have a load of cash to spend, so I need a minimalist list. I was thinking of calling it an “electronica” rave. Does anyone know where to get some great computer graphics, i.e. fractals, etc. for a flyer? I was considering a door charge. Would this be good or bad? Thanks!
