Nothing would please me nore than to see Jeb run in 2008. It would be comparable to Tricia Nixon running for president in 1976.
Actually, up until about 5 years ago, Jeb was indeed considered the most likely Republican candidate in 2008…and now, you don’t hear a peep. Sounds like even the Bush family realizes that Dubya has destroyed any chance for a continued Bush dynasty in the White House.
Well Jeb was always supposed to be the second President Bush. Then he got beat in his 1994 Florida gubernatorial campaign and Dubya surprisingly beat Ann Richards the same year. So the dynastic eye swiveled to focus on Dubya instead.
I knew I was forgetting to check something.
Hmm, perhaps the MM decade after the Roman numerals. In fact with the subsequent years being MMI, MMII and MIII we could call is the “Me Decade.”
It looks like Greek numerals used X for 1000. XX seems kinda appropriate what with all the porn some of us have seen this decade.
But I’ll throw my vote for ignoring this decade all together.
I’m kind of surprised that we’re almost eight years into this decade and we still haven’t really agreed on a handle for it. In the beginning I assumed that something would sort of organically arise and catch on eventually. It hasn’t. I think “the 2000’s” is probably about the best we’re going to do.
[nitpick]
We’re almost into our seventh year of the decade we’re talking about, the one comprising the years 2000-2009.
[/nitpick]
2007 will be the 8th year. We’re almost into the 8th year (but I was mistaken to say we were almost 8 years in).
Gah, it’s a rehash of the “when does the new millenium start” debate in a clever disguise!
It’s actually your wording that confused me. I thought at first that you were counting 2001 as the first year of the decade (a la the millennium debacle), but then, after posting, I realized it was probably a wording issue, not a “when does the decade/millenium start” problem.
