What should we name our baby?

My wife and I are haveing a baby in March. (THe due date is on my b-day by the way… ) Anywhoo she and I have been kicking around names for our child. We don’t find out the sex of the baby till the 17th this month so we are keeping our options open for a name. If it’s a boy we decided to name him Charles Bryce, and if it’s a girl we decided on Ariana…

Yes “…” We cannot decide on the middle name. I say Emily. She likes Emily too but we are still toying around with Destiny, Cassidy, Chastity, & Destin.

So we decided to ask our fellow dopers for your thoughts. Which name is prettyest after Ariana?

Also Zera was my great grandfathers name and we are still toying around with that for a boys name.

Ya know, ‘Sam’ is damn fine name. ‘Samantha’ is pretty cool too.

heh heh heh…Ya know spooje I talked it over with her and we don’t think that really fits.
Ariana Sam…

congratulations!
but…
chastity?
you REALLY sure that you want that?

why don’t you wait until you meet her and see what she looks like?
she might just look like a name you hadn’t thought of?

Sophia? It means “Wisdom”

Or how about Caroline, which means “Joyful Song”?

I think I like Ariana Destiny.

I have always found that Meatros is a good, strong, and hardworking sounding name…

Also, Vassago…There’s a sort of mystery to that name…

I always thought “Amidala” would be a pretty girl’s name…but then, I’m not the one who would have to live with it through junior high…

Heh… I’m one of those people who never gives away the names they might use.

You know, someone might actually take them. I only have two.

I’m just here saying good luck and congrats on the pregnancy.

Of the names you mentioned, I’d definitely vote for Emily. Short, sweet, classic, and appropriate for a doctor or CEO.

Destiny and Chastity are a little too stripper-ish, and “Destin,” frankly, sounds like something one would put on a nasty diaper rash. Cassidy is OK, but it’s so trendy-sounding that it would enable people to guess her birthdate to within a few years, which she may not like when she gets older.

I like Zera (or Zara) for a girl’s name, more than a boy. That “a” at the end automatically makes me think feminine gender.

We almost have to know your last name to see what would sound good with it. You don’t want an Edward Edwards, for example.

StG

My Aunt just had her first child a year ago (heh, at 20, I’m old enough to be my cousin’s mom, freaky). She named her “Arianna” (two 'n’s instead of one). For a middle name, they used Elizabeth.

Arianna Elizabeth. I think it sounds rather nice, having a sort of unusual, fancy-ish first name, then a classic name for the middle.

Dare I suggest…

Pablo?

Ok i’m going to try this again and maybe it wont lose my post this time.

Ariana Emily means Silver rival

Charles Bryce means Strong and Swift

I want Ariana b\c it has the Ana that is in my name as well. And it means Silver which is my fave color.

thanks for posting names that you like on here its helpful in finding a name that we like.

Dang, lost my post. Sigh.

  1. Make sure it yells well. Don’t want to stumble over it (or laugh) when you’re trying to sound mad (and serious).

  2. Middle name should add to the complexity of the full name, rather than emphasizing one aspect. Pretty name with sensible middle, exotic with strong, unique with moderate, etc. This lets them use the other name if they wish to emphasize a different aspect of their ‘public’ personality. (This leaves Destiny, Chastity, and Destin right out…)

  3. Why pick now? Meet her and see which one suits her best. We didn’t even pick just one FIRST name before meeting our kids. Both times, the obvious name for the child was NOT our first pick. But it was also the right name, both times, and clearly so.

BTW, Emily is my first choice of the middles you’ve listed - I like the meaning, too.

Pablo - without a doubt

I must agree with Fretful. Destin is one letter away from Desitin, the diaper cream. That was what I thought of right away when I saw it.

Of the ones you listed, I like Emily the best. Chastity second choice. I must throw out some of my favorite Germanic names as options: Ariana Crystal, Ariana Jillian, Ariana Lorelei, Ariana Giselle

I like Ariana. Reminds me of my favorite name for a girl - it looks a little strange on paper, but it sounds so pretty - Ariadne (Air-ee-add-knee)

The yells well thing is something my mom has told me time and a again. yet my little sisters name doesn’t yell well at all kinda a joke i have with my mom. but Ariana Emily sounds well together and if she does’nt like being called Ariana she can pick to be called Emily so we have a name not many ppl have and one that is very common.

As to why pick now we a tired of calling the baby it and baby  and i’m making baby quits that we wanna put the babys name on befor he or she gets here kind of a something that would be a sweet story to tell the baby when he\she is older.

I appreciate all the input. I think FeFe & I are going to stick with Ariana Emily. All of this was my fault. We had decided on the names. The other night we went into Books a Million and she started looking up the meanings of names. Thats when I blurted out. Are you sure you like the names we picked out?
So we have gone through all the possibilities again just to settle on what we originally decided on.
As far as waiting to meet the baby is concerned, I want to wait to see who she is and pick a nickname for her that way. Thats what my folks did.
So as far as we know Charles Bryce & Ariana Emily have it.
