What side are you on?

So when walking with your S.O., on which side of her/him do you walk, and is it always on the same side?

For what its worth, I always walk with my wife on my left, it feels really odd to be on the other side, for both me and her!

So are we weird or is it common to keep to ‘your’ side. a straw pole in a busy shopping street last week showed a definite bias towards boy left, girl right.

So come on dopers, what do you do?

I don’t really have a preference to which side I walk on.

What I DO have a preference for is how our fingers lace together when holding hands. One way feels right, but if I switch (put her thumb over mine) it feels weird.

And I don’t even have a girlfriend!

I prefer to be on the right sitting and walking, only because it is instictive to turn to the left. When I was in a band, I also had to be on the right.

Remember the Seinfeld episode?

When walking on a sidewalk its considered good manners for the gentleman to walk closest to the curb in order to protect the lady from water & debris kicked up by traffic. It also allows the lady to ‘window shop’.

I always make my SO walk 20 paces behind me, oddly enough I don’t have a G/F and the moment.

freakin’ classic.

I’ve never really noticed it before, but now that I think about it, I pretty much always walk on the right side.

I am always on my wife’s right side except when driving. She is deaf in her left ear and cannot hear me from that side.

I’m left handed and find it easier to be on the left side whether walking or sitting, especially if seated next to someone while eating. It frees up my left hand for reaching for things or making gestures. And it prevents me from accidentally smacking someone when making a point.

I must walk on the right side no matter who I’m with because I veer right as I walk. If I’m on my companion’s left, I bump into him or her constantly. I speculate that the problem arises because I have extremely poor vision in my left eye, and even though it’s corrected with glasses, my brain still keeps trying to avoid the unseen dangers on the left.

Before, it didn’t matter to me or my SO which side we walked on. He generally was on the outside of a sidewalk though. Now I walk on his right side because I think he’s allergic to one of my rings on my right hand. :frowning:

Like criminalcatalog though, my hand has to be in the right position. It just feels weird to have my thumb under his or to have my palm facing behind us as we walk.
