One ex-GF was a big fan of George Micheal. I took extra delight reading the accounts of him propositioning a cop in a public bathroom. BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. It still tickles me.
Now and Forever by Richard Marx
Masterpiece by Atlantic Starr
We danced to those songs just before we got together. My ex and I are still friends, and he calls and e-mails me occasionally, so it’s not a bad thing to be reminded of him.
Garth Brooks. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww
Ok, so never liked him in the beginning, but now it is just cringeworthy.
“Voice Carry” by til tuesday reminds me of the guy I loved but knew would never stay committed.
And anything by Rush reminds me of a loser I dated for two years in high school. The sound of Getty Lee’s voice…like fingernails scraping a chalkboard.
Always by Atlantic Starr. I met my ex in 1987 and that was our song. He would get off of work at mid-night and we’d get a bite to eat the Waffle House and play it in the juke box and mouth the words to each other.
Smashing Pumpkins, grrrrrrrrrrrr! One of my old hoochie’s (who I fell in love with, yuck!) favorite bands…I never really liked them.
Fugazi “Burning Too”
“Alright” by Jamiroquai. My ex is a huge Jamiroquai fan and went nuts whenever Jamiroquai released any singles or albums. I kinda liked their music for their retro sound and the fact that they were categorized as “acid jazz”.
“Faithfully,” by Journey
“Hello,” by Lionel Ritchie (I did not participate in picking this as “our song”)
“Careless Whisper” by Wham! (not really “our song,” but it was playing the night I broke up with her)
Sorry none of these are particularly noteworthy songs. I can’t help it that I went through most of my heartache during the '80s.
Anything from Metallica. I swear I’m not making this up - I get bad flashbacks and bad panic attacks whenever I hear ANYthing by Metallica.
Shudder - just thinking about it - shudder big time.
“Hey
Been tryin’ to meet you.
Hey
must be a devil between us
or whores in my head
whores
whores
whores in my bed
but Hey
where
have you
been?
If you go
I will surely die
we’re cha-ai-ained.
we’re chained.”
the Pixies
it was OUR SONG.
Well. In my current realtionship OUR SONG is Cowboy Junkies’ “Common Disaster”
Michael Bolton. I didn’t really like him before the relationship, but after listening to him and only him for 18 months I really started to despise him and his murfdering of the classics. I can’t even see him on TV without feeling a shudder.
Keith
The Cult - I hate Sanctuary
Stay - Shakespeare’s Sister
Stigmata - Ministry
Sad but True - Metallica
Close My Eyes Forever - Ozzy and Lita Ford
When I’m With You - Sheriff
Been Caught Stealing - Jane’ Addiction
Ahh yes the headbanger years, sigh. AKA “The Time Before Basic Training”.
Anything by Alanis Morisette.
“Voodoo” by Godsmack
“Girl Like You” by Edwin Collins.
Sigh.
Even thinking about hearing these songs is depressing.
Bad memory with Lita Ford and Ozzy-close your eye’s
Very bad but funny as hell. All you die hard metal fans will know this.
I fucking hate you-from strapping young lad
If you don’t know the song, even if you don’t like metal find someone who does and listen to this song.
I can’t stand to lsiten to anything by The Doors. My ex hubby was crazy about The Doors. He had every single book, cd and film concerning The Doors. I had to listen to The Soft Parade so many times that if I hear it now, I can flash back into the early 90’s when I still had big hair and was scared I was going to get beaten because his football team lost. I ran screaming from a department store once because they were playing The Doors over the speaker system. He ruined a perfectly enjoyable band for me. I will never think of The Doors without thinking of him.
Green Day. He played the Dookie album daily. For some strange reason, he also loved Peter, Paul, and Mary (I never got it, either)… I still get an icky feeling in my stomach when I hear Puff the Magic Dragon.
In no particular order . . .
“Ice” – Sarah McLachlan
“On These Days” – Allison with One
“By The Time I Get To Phoenix” – Isaac Hayes (don’t ask . . .)
“Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me” – The Smiths
“In Spite Of Me” – Morphine
“Both Hands” – Ani Difranco
Man, I loved those girls . . .
"I was Stoned and I Missed It" Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.
Wasn’t really, but I should have been.
Savage Garden, all of it. Jason.
Everything’s Alright. J C Superstar. Perrico.
My Favorite Mistake. Mike. (He so is/was.)
Don’t Cry, Guns N Roses (?). Bob. (That wasn’t a dependent relationship or anything. not at all. Nope.)
Every ex has a song or batch of them. I assign them, they don’t get a choice. Most of my friends have been assigned songs, for that matter. Music is just a way of being me.
