So, how about you?? What's your favorite...

… break up song??

You know the one… that makes you burn inside (no, not that kind of burn, you perv)… that makes you want to ring your ex’s neck… even if it’s been years… I guess I kinda stole the whole “song association” idea, but I decided to make this thread instead of hijacking the other one…

So, how about you??? What’s your favorite “GRRRR, I HATE YOU, YOU WERE A HUGE MISTAKE” song?

I will be the first to reply to my own thread.

“You Oughtta know” by Alanis Morissette. Very Grrr.

“And are you thinkin of me when you F*** her???” Great line. Lots of hate there.

I can’t remember the actual title to the song because it was way back in the sixties, but I once broke up with a girl with a song that had the lyrics “how do I tell her I don’t love her anymore?” in it. I sure was a cold jerk back then. Now I have mellowed out considerably. I would never do that now.

“It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” I think it was the last day that we were living in the city where I had met the guy, and he drove me home when this song came on. It’s kind of melancholy, and it was terribly ironic at the time. Now it just sucks because I think of how pathetic I was that evening, simpering over this idiot who ended up practically stalking me the entire summer while I was busy trying to start another relationship…ahem Yes. That song still makes me want to find the boy and wring his neck.

I couldn’t stand “Baby it’s cold outside”, about a lecher who wants the girl to stay the night because it’s starting to snow. It gave lots of “just friends” dates a lot of stupid ideas.

“Idiot Wind,” by Bob Dylan. The whole album’s great, but that track is a masterpiece of concentrated nastiness – and I love the way it starts to yield to sorrow in the last verse.

“I’m an Old Cowhand, from the Rio Grand”. She played that night and day. I still get mad, like you say, when I hear it.

“One More Minute,” by Weird Al. Makes me think of my ex every single time. ewww!

Si Una Vez, by Selena

Not that I hope to ever have a reason to use it, but my favourite is Iggy and the Stooges’ ‘Sick of You’. Here’s a sample of the lyrics (about his ex-wife):

Sick of hanging around your pad
Sick of your mom and I'm sick of your dad
Hey now Betsy it's sad but true
Now I'm even Sick of You

Another great one is the Urinals song ‘Go Away Girl’, and not to forget the Ramones ‘I don’t wanna Walk around with you’.
